Should I email?

I applied for a position a few weeks ago. About 10 days ago they sent me an email asking for my salary requirements. I know 2 people that work for the company and they said this usually results in an interview. The one person emailed me yesterday to see if I'd heard from HR and said not to worry if I hadn't because they've been busy with some last-minute projects or something like that.

I had an interview with a different organization this week and will find out if I get the job next week. I'm pretty sure I will be offered the position. However, the first company is my dream company to work for. Should I email the HR person to check in with her? What would I say in my email? I'm just worried that I will get the first job and then get an interview for the other position. Maybe I'm over thinking everything but should I still email to express my continued interest?
