Parking at Minneapolis Central Library ?

Has anyone been down to this Library? What is parking like? is it paid parking or is there free parking? Also is it really that "cool" of a Libary or is it just like any other one? We would love to go check to story time there bu would really like to know more first

Thanks

Re: Parking at Minneapolis Central Library ?

  • There is underground parking, pay by cash or credit card.  $3/hour I believe?  I zipped in and out once and I can't remember if I even looked at the kid area.  I am SO disappointed in the Roseville library remodel because the temporary location had an awesome, huge pretend house and activities...and I think the new downtown library has a similar feel to Roseville - big, sterile (in my opinion), post-modern clean.

I'd love a "kid review" of any libraries people have gone too!  Arden Hills is small but an awesome little kids area.  We hiked all the way to Brookdale library because we were told it's super cool but it was just a bunch of kids staring at computer screens - yuck! Not why I go to a library....no little kid stuff to do.

That said for YOUR kid (my youngest is 3 now) The Roseville library has 2 kid play areas that are fun.

  • Wow thanks for the review. We go to the E.P. Lib a lot they have a great kids area with lots of puzzles & blocks. I also like that the kids area is off to one side where the kids & can talk and not get bad looks from other their

  • There is no free parking :(  I would just park under the library, its easier.

That is the one thing I HATE about the downtown library.  The children's area is great.  Toys, books and building blocks for the little ones.  They also have a room for storytime that has more toys.

     Enjoy!

  • Oh that is really sad there is no free parking as I would love to check it out. Well maybe will go but only for a very limited time so we don't have to pay that much to park as the whole point of going to a Library is free fun.
