Justin almost had a heart attack

I was making my coffee and reached for the agave nectar...justin comes flying into the kitchen "NO! what are you doing???? that's just as bad as honey!" and rips it from my hands...Indifferent apparently his hormones are out of control as well lol

and FYI, agave nectar isn't great for pregnant girls but not for the reason honey is! apparently it stimulates menstrual activity, so in your first trimester, you should avoid it.

  • Ha ha!

I actually didn't know honey was bad for you during pregnancy, I thought it was just bad for infants.

Well, good thing Amye GBCNed, b/c I used agave nectar all the time while I was pregnant.

  • i really like agave nectar!!! i'm gonna go back to it after the first trimester is done

Yeah, when you're pregnant, it's like nothing is "safe," but few things are actually proven "unsafe." With sugar substitutes, I just feel like you can't win and have to go with real sugar b/c there's always something wrong with everything else. Well, until now I thought agave was OK, so I thought that was one of the easier dilemmas to solve. Oh well. I'll file it away in my brain for #2.

  • I never heard about the agave nectar. I was just looking at it at Trader Joe's the other day. I'll keep that in mind if there is a second time around.

  • i heard it's not good for pregnant ladies for the same reason as babies...Bocciolism or however the eff you spell it.  At least i thought i heard that...but now that i am researching it, it looks like it's pretty much ok lol  Justin threw the honey out when i got the BFP...he's not gonna make it the 9 months

It's really cute how involved and concerned he is! But it may be a curse -- be sure he knows that you're allowed to eat ice cream, before he throws that out too ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Phil would never have had a clue what I could and couldn't eat if I didn't tell him, bless his heart.  It would have been a LONG 9 months if he had! lol.  He also was a bit overprotective.

Yes, make sure he knows that ice cream is still ok!  LOL!

It's so nice he's so involved, I have a feeling that can be a blessing and curse. ;-)  I hope DH is the same way though.

This was my thought as well. It will be a LONG 9 months if the ice cream goes out the window!

  • dude, I've been eating honey like its no one's business.  My midwife actually suggested that I eat/put local honey into my foods because my eyes have been so incredibly itchy for the past few months.  I've never suffered from allergies before and we're not sure if that is what is causing this (and wont know until after I have the baby to see whether this sticks around or not), but yeah.  Its not fun.

Plus honey is yummy.Stick out tongue

Generally speaking though, you should be fine to eat most things.  If you are worried, then of course cut it out.  But if done/used in moderation, you should be good to go.

If it helps, I drink coffee daily (though I have gone down to half caff) and have had sushi a few times and eat turkey sammies every few weeks.  My baby boy is developing just fine.Wink

  • Ladies-

Honey isnt bad for you while you are pregnant- "Yes, it's safe as long as the honey is pasteurized."
