Basements and water

Some of you may remember from the nest days my water issues.......basement in our rental home flooded twice.  GRRR!!!

We have owned our home for a bit over 2 years.  We finished off a family room in the basement (dry wall, ceiling with recessed lights, cleaned up the fireplace) and chose to put carpet down since it will be nice and soft for kids to play on.  We also figured carpet would be ok in the basement because we have never had water issues.  WELL.....last weekends storm was a nasty mess!  We have this little room downstairs that is about 8 feet by 8 feet and water came up through the floor in that room.  We were able to keep up with the water for a while, but eventually there was just too much water.  It got to the carpet and we had water come up in another spot that got the carpet as well.  Unfortunately, my cite little family room is gonna lose its nice soft, kid friendly floor covering:(  And we are out the cost too...GRRRRR
