The wedding

Well, that was a long weekend!

Friday night was the Mehendi party where they give the bride and the women henna tattoos. It took 3 hours to do my friend's (pics on FB). She had it all over her hands and feet and she had to sleep with toilet paper wrapped around it that night! It looked beautiful though.

Saturday night there was a dinner for out of town guests, which we didn't stay long at but that was good too.

Yesterday was the wedding. It started at 8 but we had no idea really what was going on. We went outside and the Hindu priest was doing something with my friend, the groom wasn't out there. Then she went inside and we followed and he came and greeted her from outside, holding what looked like 2 mangoes! Then, they both had about 3 garlands around their necks and they were chasing eachother with them. They did a swing ceremony and I'm not sure what went on there but their feet were being washed etc. Back outside they went and the ceremony went on till 11! She changed her Sari once during and then before lunch. We had lunch and then there was a break in the afternoon.

The evening seemed more Americanized - the women were still in Indian dress but all the men in suits. They did the traditional entrance, speeches, first dance, cake cutting etc., then there was dancing (lots of Bollywood style!) and we had dinner of course. There was an open bar and I've never seen Arek drink so much! He had 10 cocktails! He was fine, just happier than normal, but lol!

It was fun, and very different and good to see all my friends, but I won't be eating Indian food for a while. I love it, but I've had enough, esp as it gives Lucie the hiccups it seems!!

Re: The wedding

  • I've been looking at the pictures as you've been posting them on FB...looks like it was quite the experience!  As a bride, I can't imagine having to try to plan and coordinate all of that!!!  One evening's worth of wedding and reception was enough for me!  Stick out tongue

  • The pictures are amazing. It sounds tiring and fun at the same time. I agree that is a lot to coordinate, but it sounds like they pulled it off well.
