wake up people!

it's utterly DEAD on this board. what's up with that?

how were your weekends?

i woke up with a cold yesterday. when i cough, it's like i'm gargling razor blades because it's made my throat so raw. super awesome!

in other news, my front pots look awesome and that makes me happy.

all of my pets have ear issues right now and that makes me not happy and broke. how the hell does a kitten get ear mites anyway? he's never been outside the house since we found him. and by the way, yeasty, dirty pet ears STINK really bad. *blech*

Re: wake up people!

  • We went to the humane society.  Great news is adult cats are down from $110 to $50.  the bad news is MOST OF THE ADULTS were gone! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.  We're about 2-3 weeks from getting them and I hope they have any left!  Seriously there were like 5 adult cats in the whole place.  Two were unfreakin believably adorable, but a few were long haired that we don't want.

Sigh! Oh and my car death makes me extremely pissy lately.  And being angry makes me tired.  And I'm sad about losing faith in Subaru.  Ah, the whirlwind of emotions lately. :)

  • We had such a nice relaxing weekend! And my Packers won, so whoohoo for that too! I leave for Chicago on Wednesday and Honolulu next Tuesday so I'm psyched for the upcoming trips!
  • We went on a road trip (Carly's first out of state) to Houghton, MI in the UP this weekend.  My sister plays soccer for UMD and had a game there on Sunday.  It was fun to go somewhere we haven't been before, and there were some fall colors starting to pop in the trees, so it made for a nice drive!  Carly was pretty good overall, and all the soccer girls loved her!

In un-weekend news....We are going to try feeding Carly solids for the first time tonight (bananas)!!  I'm excited....wish us luck! :)

  • I am beat today. :(  Friday night I had a meeting for work.  Seriously, who schedules a meeting for 7pm on a Friday??  I was there till about 10 and then ended up staying up until almost 2am cleaning for my sister's bachelorette party.

My sister's bachelorette party was on Saturday, but since she is pregnant, it was pretty tame. :)  It was fun though, and I think she had a fun time which is the most important part. :)

I am exhausted, and running on caffiene and like 5 hours of sleep......and now trying to plan my husband's surprise 30th for next weekend, all while working 75 hours/week.  GAH!  I need life to slow down a bit! :)

Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

It's the Season! Cats can carry mites for along time before they flare up.

  • I spent all weekend selling stuff on Craigslist.  It is a ton of work, but I made a lot of money that I really needed though!

  • It's SO hot down here that I was sweating walking 20 ft from my car to the bank.  I can't wait to move up there and have a nice cool fall.  I just hope it doesn't turn bitterly cold the minute we move up there!  We close on our house on Sept 30th!  Yippee!
  • We went to a party for a friend who is fighting cancer.  She's had it for 2 years now and it so thin her bones stick out.  But she's got a great attitude and smiles a lot.  I always hug her goodbye extra long because I'm afraid it will be the last time.

Went to the Ren Fair so DH would schmoose with his new coworkers.  Yelled at a guy coming out of the porta potty because he had sprayed the seat.  I called him a name, he waited outside and called me names.  And the crowd of women clapped for me.  Then I lost him going out of the potty area so DH wouldn't see him swearing at me and want to kick his ass.

Yesterday I got the suitcases out and started piling things up to take on our trip next week.  I'm so excited to see everything.  I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to wear my cute fall stuff though after I realized it's still like our summer in the South.

  • I'm struggling to stay awake - I could not sleep last night! I just kept thinking of all the things I have to do this week and how the heck am I going to get it done? I think in the end, I got about 3 hours of sleep - and even that was not really of any sort of quality. :(

    This week's To Do list:

    1) Find a dress for my brother's engagement party next month. I have to do it now because . .

    2) In-laws fly in on Thursday for a two week visit and I need to get stuff ready for them (list of things to do/see/visit, plus food and such for their hotel room, plus little gifts -but what gifts? DH isn't really helping me come up with things!)

    3) Good friends from the UK are also in town and we are getting together with them tomorrow. yay! I can't wait to see them and meet their adorable 4 month old son!

    4) Said good friends are in town because they are getting their son Christened in Winona on Sunday - - which I am going to by myself since DH doesn't want to completely ditch his parents. I'm driving down and back in the morning and then spending the afternoon with ILs and making dinner for them.

    5) I need to find something cute and Christening appropriate to wear on Sunday.

    6) Repot some plants that have half died and are looking pretty drab.

And on top of that, DH was in a minor car accident Friday night. No damage to his car, but the guy he rear-ended has very slight damage to his bumper. Even though the damage was minimal and probably would cost $50 to fix, the guy filed an insurance claim. GRRRR! So we get to deal with that too - and the car's brakes fixed/replaced since they probably contributed to the accident.

So yeah - lots of stuff going on. Plus we are still planning parts of our CA trip next month. We are sooooo looking foward to it and after 2 weeks with his parents, we will be in dire need of some R & R!

Oh - I am also eagerly awaiting a call from my sister that she's had her baby! She was due last week so I am incredibly anxious!

  • It's been dead on some of the other boards too.

My weekend was kind of a rollercoaster ...

I went shopping on Friday night and found the perfect shoes to wear to my SIL's wedding this coming weekend. Yay!

I worked at the Gopher football game on Saturday. Utterly embarrassing loss. Boo.

I went to a family reunion on Saturday night and saw a bunch of relatives I hadn't seen in a long time. A definite yay!

I went to visit a friend in the hospital. She had a rare complication from a rather routine procedure on Thursday morning and ended up having emergency surgery which is now being followed by a 8/9 day hospital stay. The good news is that she's recovering well and is in good spirits. So I guess that's a boo and a yay. Boo for the emergency surgery and hospital stay. Yay for the good recovery!

Then I went shopping for a wedding present for SIL. I was in such a bad mood because SIL & her FI are being super difficult about wedding stuff lately and we're so irritated we don't really want to get them a gift at all. Of course, we have to get a gift and we will get something, but it sucks to try to be thoughtful and generous to people who have been such jerks lately. Boo.

But then, I got a huge compliment from my boss on a big project I've been working on, so that brought me back to YAY!

    really? that's interesting to know!

we have 2 cockers and they ALWAYS have ear infections. i know it's partially because lars is not very good about doing the treatments like he's supposed to when we get meds and then he doesn't clean there ears very often in between. and yes, i could help but we've kind of landed on this "the dogs are his responsibility and the cats are mine" routine and besides, i think that dogs ears are nasty. (and yes, i know that's flamable) i'm totally not a dog person. : p  i'd definitely rather scoop the cat box then clean dog ears.

this time, i have to put Malotic in Twister's ears and clean them too. so nasty! i can't believe all the dirty yuck that comes out of them twice a day. makes me wonder why he doesn't scratch them right off. they have to itch like crazy! boo on gross cat ears.

razamataz, you have a LOT of shopping to do! you'd better get busy!

german girl, 75 hours of work a week is a LOT. is that how it always is?

i'm super envious of all of you going on a trip.

  • The weekend was good. Very relaxing. We didn't do much of anything, which is nice.

I've been so busy at work I haven't even had time to check The Nest much less take the time to post something. I've got so much work to do and we are not allowed ANY overtime at all. I once got "talked to" because I had 15 minutes of OT. So, I'm stuck trying to get too many things done in way to little time. But I love it. It's better to be busy and know they need me than to sit around waiting to get laid off. And I like what I'm doing, so that helps.

oh yes - Too much I "need" and  yet very little money and time to get it. Quite the frustrating combination! I find it so difficult to justify spending on myself when there are SO many other things that would be better served with the money (ie taxes, debt, vacation, savings, etc . . )

Plus, I don't really need new outfits as I can scrounge up something from what I currently have - but I don't care for anything at the moment. Buying little things for the in-laws puts me in their good graces for a little while - which is desperately needed at the beginning of the trip because by the end of the two weeks, I am pulling my hair out!

Sorry all your furry ones have ear issues - I hope they get better soon! I agree with you about dog-ears -  Blech!

  • I had a good weekend.  Saturday we went out to dinner with my bff and her H to celebrate my birthday and went out afterwards for drinks.  Several of my friends that I haven't seen for awhile came to celebrate and it was good to see everyone.  Also, I'm playing my H in fantasy football this week and currently beating him 110-97.  It's fun rubbing it in!

  • I had nothing but hell on earth this weekend.

I took a medication on Friday (for my acne) and it corroded my esophagus. Suffered all weekend at work and then landed in the ER at 1:30 this morning. Had to have an emergency endoscopy this afternoon. Now I'm drugged as all heck from the sedation and so pissed about my pain.

    And I'm whining...cuz dang it...IT HURTS.

    That's my news.

  • Dh and I took Greta and Sofie (our dog) to Woofstock in Linden Hills this weekend. It was such a beautiful day. It was our first dog "outing" without Bijou and it was sad that she wasn't there with us. She used to get so many compliments because she was so beautiful. Sofie had a great time. You could just see her smiling. I think it was the best day she's had in awhile.

After Woofstock, I left with Greta for a quick trip to Mason City, IA to go to my godson's one year birthday party. We didn't get there until 4:30pm and left at 8:30pm. It was fun but a lot of driving for a 4 hour trip. Greta did awesome in the car and slept both ways during the drive so that made things a little easier.

Sunday was my birthday and I went out to lunch at Red Lobster with dh and Greta and then I went to Macaroni Grill with a friend for dinner. It was a good weekend!

  • This past weekend was the FIRST WEEKEND all summer long that DH didn't have to work. It was fantastic. Plus we hung out with our neighbors who are super cool too.

I have so much crap to do. This weekend we're dog sitting, next weekend I'm hosting Book Club (but we're doing a stuff swap instead of reading), photographing some sort event for a friend, bridal shower, etc... It's going to be one crazy month.

  • My weekend was fun, we live in Nfld and Jesse James Festival was in town, so we spent most of the weekend downtown, it was fun catching up with people and enjoying the festival.
  • weekend was awesome!  Spent it in Bemidji with my SIL.  We got a TONNN done in her new home and they are hoping to move in around Thanksgiving.  (if they ever decide on countertop!)  Their new house is 6600 square feet!  I told them they will need a maid now!  lol

And in other news, I finished 2 more embroidery squares for the Christmas quilts.  yeah!!  Down to 7 left and I started one more last night so should be done with that set by Thursday at the latest.

Busy planning the baby shower for Tiffany.  So I am doing a "love and advice tree".  So cutting out baby bottles and hearts to go out with the invites (I think) Invites should be ready soon and then if only I could get a guest list from Tiffany's mom!!  Her step mom has got for me and of course I have my side of the famdamily, but I guess I can only send to those who I actually get addresses  for!

  • Hi!

Sorry to hear you are sick.  Half the people I work with have bronchitis, I know a few others with it and I know 2 people with pneumonia!  Be careful!!

Our weekends are busy.  We have been tearing up a concrete sidewalk, fixing the lawn that was destroyed in the process of removing the sidewalk, planted 2 trees in our yard, been working on dog training (intermediate obedience starts this week!), doing a lot of family stuff and more.  I hardly have time to internet!

My dog has a cough of some sort - and I LOVE LOVE her, but she's had so many random fluke health things that I can relate to being broke.  One of our cats got earmites after we moved into our house (last year) and the only time he spent outside was in the carrier, walking to and from the car.  I have no idea how these things happen!  I think Chloe's cough is just a puppy sickness - our vet said that while her immune system develops as she grows, she could get some of these random colds, but unless she starts being lethargic or stops eating, we should monitor her at home and call if there are any sudden changes.  It's exhausting, though, and I'm a total worry-wart & hypochondriac, so I always fear the worst.

What did you put in your front pots that make them look so amazing?  i'm trying to hold off buying fall mums, knowing that they never last for more than a few weeks and I want them to look pretty closer to Halloween...
