Last week an email went out at my husbands work informing them that an employee of the company was killed in a car accident, leaving behind his wife and unborn child. It broke my heart. I hear things like this all of the time and it's just devastating, but this really got to me.
A 21 year old girl was driving and wanted to take her sweater off so she asked her friend to take the wheel, her friend veered into oncoming traffic and was heading straight for Brian Wood and his wife Erin. He turned the wheel just enough so that his side of the vehicle took the hit in an attempt to save his wife and unborn child. It is believed that the 21 year old was under the influence of drugs. Brian Wood died at the scene and his wife was rushed to the hospital with a head injury. She has since been released from the hospital and is physically ok.
Life is too short to take for granted. Hug the ones you love and tell them every chance you get. Please take a second out of your day and pray for Erin Wood and her baby.
Thanks

I wish things were an eye for an eye!!!!

That's so terrible, I can't imagine what his poor wife is going through. My T&Ps are with his family and friends. And I agree that it's a really messed up thing for that girl to do.
But at the same time imagine that you were a 20 year old who made a really stupid decision and now has to live with the knowledge that you were responsible for killing a husband and father. That's pretty rough.
Thinking about it now, I was a little harsh with my comments. But, c'mon!! Hold the steering wheel so I can take off my sweater? She couldn't wait for a red light or pull over? Also, it is still 100* outside, why is she wearing a sweater?

I know, it was stupid but maybe she wasn't on anything, maybe she just did something incredibly dumb. Maybe everyone wouldn't do something like that but everyone has a moment where they aren't paying attention while they're driving, I've tried taking a sweater off while driving but wouldn't have someone hold the steering wheel, or I see moms turning around to yell at their kids or try to reach a baby's pacifier while driving all the time. It's a split second mistake that cost a life and probably will haunt that girl for the rest of her life. It's sad for everyone involved.
This is absolutely horrible and my heart breaks for Erin and her baby who will never know her daddy.
I also agree with Katie, that it sucks for Brian's family, but it's also a little sad for the girl that has to live with that. I think we have all done something like this at some point when we were younger and you don't really think about how something that "will only take a second" can cause such a huge impact on someone else's lives.
I 100% totally agree with this...
It wasn't in Phoenix, it was in Northern Washington. They were from Vancouver but were in Washington when it happened.

I read about this story on (I think?) cnn. SO sad and tragic. I have been feeling for his wife and unborn baby ever since I heard this story. Just awful. =(
