Would you take a job......

In a known dangerous area? I am sometimes worried about how safe I am at work sometimes. I have police escorts to the subway etc... now its really getting to me. Nothing has ever happened but now its not just about me..... time to move on?

Re: Would you take a job......

  • I wouldn't. I am too paranoid.

  • If I were you and pregnant with triplets, I'd just make sure I had an escort at all times, and would start job-hunting if/when I returned to work post-babies.  Triplets = higher probability of bedrest and/or pre-40w delivery, so not only is the window to job-hunt very small, but it's possible you won't be going to/from your office for very much longer anyway.

  • Right, I am trying to make it till christmas then will resign, I just dont want to up and leave the kids without making sure they hire a good replacement. that can shadow me a month before I leave. Most likely I will not be returning to  full time status for a LONG time.
  • It depends. I worked in Baltimore about a block or 2 from some nasty drug activity. But I stayed in the "safer" part of that area and never had a problem.

But I see that your pregnant, and I could see that making me more nervous about the situation. I don't think it would hurt to start looking for something in a safer area while you're still where you are. however, you're going to have to account for the fact that you won't be eligible for FMLA at your next job most likely.

  • I would start looking for something.  You don't want any additional stress while your pregnant.  Chances are if you find a job before you deliver you won't qualify for fmla which might be the bigger decision.

  • Does your police escort wait with you in the subway as well? If not, that would make me very nervous. Taking you to the subway is nice, but what happens when s/he leaves?

Ditto this.  Is there any option to adjust work times, so you're say leaving for the subway before it gets dark?  Or working from home, so you're only having to deal with being in the office 2 or 3 days/week instead of 5?

  • Its just kind of hard, I am home today because of an accident in the subway, and there was a chase and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and a cop actually accidently pushed me down stairs and I was told to stay in bed this week. But when I am at work, I am am interm principal.... my real job is Director of Special Services/ School Psychologist. H never liked the neighborhood I was in, is top 5 dangerous in the city. I am just about ready to take a paid year leave of absence and call it a day.

I would do just that... "call it a day" your family's (including  your own personal) safety and security is what comes first.  Also, if you are entitled to a paid year leave, I would take it if I were you.  You just don't need that added stress, especially after what you just mentioned about the chase in the subway.  Best of luck hun and I hope it works out for you.
