Another BC Question...

Okay, so I've been on Yaz for 2 years now (the only bc I've ever been on), and I have had zero issues. In fact, my acne cleared up, I lost 10 pounds, my mood swings went away, etc. etc. I have had no problems with my sex drive--in fact my husband has stated it might be a bit excessive lol. Anyway... It's a bit expensive, but I was dealing with that for the benefits. I've been reading on quite a few forums lately about others who have had really bad reactions to Yaz, either immediately or down the road on it, which is starting to scare me.

Yaz is a relatively new drug I realize, and I don't like the idea of (as my husband put it) being a guinea pig to see any long-term effects.I might be fine on it -now- but what of in 2 or 3 years?

The other issue is cost. Yaz came out with a generic this month that is the same price as the original was ($75), and the name brand is now 98! Yikes! I learned this when I picked it up the other day at my pharmacy.

So obviously cost is an issue. However, I'm extremely hesitant to switch to another because I'm afraid of gaining weight or having weird reactions that I haven't had on Yaz. Plus I keep reading about other people's sex drives being negatively effected. My body is currently just fine on my current BC and I don't want to upset it. Then there's the potential risks that could come up later that I could possibly avoid by switching to a more well-studied brand...ugh.

I'm making an appointment to see my doctor of course, but I wanted some feedback before I go in. Thoughts?

Re: Another BC Question...

  • I was on Yaz and also had no issues while on it (about 2 years). However, all the new medical issues that I'd seen and read about started to freak me out, so I switched. I'm now on Loestrin 24, and I can't tell any difference.

  • I suppose the real issue is about what you consider worse...gaining some weight or getting knocked up?  If you switch BC pills, you can always do 10 extra sit ups to offset the weight gain potential.
  • Loestrin24? I'll ask about that when I go to the doctor, thanks for replying.
