Feeling homesick...

...for my old job.

I really miss the people, the atmosphere, the kids - everything.  I hate the politics in this new district.  I feel very exposed and not protected and I'm scared and unhappy.  I know that I'm lucky to even HAVE a job, and I feel like a brat complaining, but I really wish I could have my old job back.  I know I can't, but I can't complain IRL because everyone tells me just to get over it.

 Sad panda.

RIP Dr. Irving Fishman - 10/1/19-7/25/10 - thank you for holding on for me.
You made my wedding day complete.

  • Hi M!  I tried responding before and my computer cut out.  I know the feeling.  This is my 4th district and it is always hard to start at a new place.  I always miss my old friends and the way things were at the old school.  But try to be positive and look on the bright side.  You do have a job when so many teachers would love one instead of subbing or working in another field.  Also try to find some nice colleagues.  Just like kids, it is hard to make new friends. Hang in there!   I hope things improve!

  • You can always vent here, we're all here for each other.

I know the feeling, although I've never changed districts, changing schools this year has been really hard.  It's easy to say you should feel lucky to have a job, but not always easy to ignore the crappy parts and only look on the bright side, but try to hang in there.  I'm hoping things get better for you!

  • I feel ya.  I've never changed schools or districts, but there have been some changes in my district that make work very difficult:  Increased class sizes, more work for the same pay, switching to high-deductible insurance, etc.  I swear, if it weren't for my awesome students, I would have a hard time coming to work every day.

That's terrible that people IRL are telling you to just get over it!  I understand that there are a lot of people out there looking for jobs, but if I didn't vent about mine I would go nuts!  Always feel free to vent away here!

  • Hang in there! I haven't switched districts, but have had more/different schools added to my caseload (I am a SLP.)  It is hard.  Remember usually the start of the school year is the worse!! Hopefully, it will get better!  Are you living close to your old district? Maybe plan a happy hour or get together with your teacher friends from there!
