Anyone been up to Nova Scotia?

We've been brainstorming on vacation ideas for next year and I was surprised to see how much Nova Scotia looks great to me! Has anyone been? Worth the trip? We were thinking of going to Bar Harbor (we've each been there before, but separately) and taking a boat up to NS, then back. Make a week of it sometime next year.

Re: Anyone been up to Nova Scotia?

  • Been there and loved it! We went in late June and it was cool like today - but it wasn't super busy which was nice - I call it "the cape of the north" Very relaxing...I'd go again in a heartbeat...We took the Scotia Prince and brought our car to drive on a 3 day trip. My favorite place to stay was a White Sand Beach - there is a lodge there and it is RIGHT on the water with walking trails etc. and bunnies living all on the grounds - you can get bunny food at the front desk for free and feed the wild bunnies...loved it! Not upscale accomodations, but that was fine by us. I thought it was worth it...next time I go up that way I want to go to PEI...

  • That's what my brother and his wife just did for their honeymoon. ?They loved it!
  • I've been to New Brunswick and it was lovely.  We actually stayed on the other side of the bay of fundy.  I think it would be a great vacation!
  • My parents just went in June for their 25th wedding anniversary. ?They had a fantastic time. ?They took the Cat over from Portland.

  • We went every summer for several years, because we have family there.  Some of my Aunts and Uncles were born there.  It's really beautiful, and if you're looking for a relaxing vacation, it's the place to go.  Halifax is a lot of fun; it's a city, but a much smaller one than Boston.

And I know that Lisa mentioned PEI- that is one of the most beautiful places, and one of my favorite vacations ever, so I would highly reccommend that as well.

  • When we went up there, all we did was take the CAT from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth and we stayed overnight there for one night.  Yamouth was pretty boring, I thought, and there wasn't much to see there.  If I were to go that route again, I think I'd make sure that I had a car there (either rent or bring ours on the ferry) so that we could take a drive and see more.

The ride on the CAT is awesome itself, though......

  • We went there on our honeymoon and loved it!  We took our car on the CAT from Bar Harbor.  It's so beautiful there!
  • Laura, I agree, Yarmouth is not the most exciting place.
  • I highly recommend PEI as well.  We went there 10 years ago and it is still one of my favorite vacations ever.  It is SO pretty up there, pictures simply do not do it justice.

We drove back through Nova Scotia coming home from PEI and it seemed like a nice place as well.  Lots of nice (and cheap) places to eat.  Plus the beaches there are in the stright of something (can't remember), so the water feels like bathwater.  We went in mid-July and stopped at a beach thinking we would only stay for a few minutes, because it wasn't even that hot out.  Once we put out feet in the water we went back to the car, changed into our swimsuits and stayed for the day.  I have never felt water that warm on a beach before in my life, and I've been to Mexico, the islands, etc.
