Ear infections

My 10 month old has been screaming at night when we put her to bed and wakes up screaming during the night. She started pulling at her ears and yesterday was kinda slapping her head. I am hoping she doesn't have a ear infection and we let it go this long. I would feel so horrible! How do you know when they are that little?

Re: Ear infections

  • Pulling on her ears is a one of the most common clues that I know of.  Also if there is any drainage, a fever, or change in behavior.

  • She doesn't pull on them often just once in awhile or while she is eating. She has not really eaten well at all. She never used to be this difficult going to bed. You can clearly see she is exhausted but still screams like crazy. No drainage or fever. She gets warm but I dont think feverish.

  • Have you called your doctor's office and talked to a nurse?  I would maybe get their advice, although I'm sure they'll say to just bring her in.  :(   I don't have a child, so this may be a ridiculous suggestion, but do they make baby tylenol or something you could give her and see if that relieves her issues at night?
  • Jeremy is taking her in at 11 today. We have tried the medicine. Doesn't seem to help.
  • Well, hopefully it's something easy that they can give her some medicine for and make her all better!  Poor girl!
  • I hope so! These nights are rough!! Especially when I am up at 5 for work
  • If she is pulling on them while eating I am going to guess it is an ear infection.  It sounds like the eating/jaw motion is irritating her more than at rest.  The tylenol you have given her has probably kept the fever at bay.

  • Turns out she doesn't have one. The doctor says she looks perfect. She says its her teething issues.
  • We took LO in for her 6 month check-up and was told she had one, we had no idea she was showing NO signs and was acting completely normal.

I think every child is different.
