Milwaukee Hotel Help

Northeast WI Nestie here, looking for some insight on where to stay.

For MH's birthday, we bought Farm Aid tickets (I can't believe how dorky I feel saying that. Embarrassed  It's at Miller Park, Mellencamp is playing, as well as Kenny Chesney, Dave Matthews Band, so we're willing to risk it being a Farm Aid concert to see them.)

Concert is October 2nd.  A lot of hotels are booked already.

We typically stay in Brookfield, but the concert likely will run until ~11 and when we've stayed at the few hotels with availability in the Brookfield area, everything nearby is closed by 10:00-11:00.)

We're not looking to close down the bars, but would maybe like to have a beer in a sports bar or casual bar, maybe catch a band for a little bit.  (We're more into laid back kinds of places and not interested in hitting the club-type places.)

We've stayed at the City Center Hilton once, which was nice.  We're not going to be in the room much, so I hesitate to spend the $200+ (with parking) for all of maybe 8 hours, especially considering we don't know where we're going in the Downtown area.

A lot of the other hotels I can see rooms available for are in the airport area, which I'm not very excited about, Milwaukee West, or Milwaukee North (areas defined by places like Orbitz or Travelocity.)

Any feedback/insight?

Re: Milwaukee Hotel Help

  • Have you considered trying on Priceline for something downtown?  I have heard of people getting the Pfister for $75/night.  I've never used it myself, but I'm sure if you search for the higher quality downtown hotels, you can get something for a decent price.

  • I live about 5-10 minutes south of the airport and there is a LaQuinta with an Applebees just down the street. I've looked at rooms before and they are pretty reasonable. Its kind of out of the way but the price might make it worth it. Its in Oak Creek.

  • I think you should definitely stay downtown, and I like the idea to try Priceline. Go to biddingfortravel.com or something like that first if you've never used Priceline before--it helps a lot in getting what you want.

  • Thanks, everyone!  Turns out that happens to be the weekend of the Lakefront Marathon.  I was struggling to understand why hotel rooms were going like hotcakes!  (I was watching hotwire and the two 3.5-star hotels in Downtown both disappeared within 36 hours. Sad)  My 5 days of bids on Priceline for Downtown also were rejected, and now it would be the same as just going to one of their websites and booking it directly.

We ended up taking one of the few hotels we knew the general area (Milwaukee West) and was a decent star rating.  Not exactly what I'd hoped for, but better than a lot of what we had left as options!

    Thanks for your input!
