When to follow up on late RSVPs?

RSVP date was yesterday.  I need to give a final headcount to the caterer on Monday.

Is it too early to contact the people who have yet to RSVP?

I wouldn't have put the RSVP date so close to the caterer's date but that's done.  I'd go ahead and contact people.  You may get a few late mailers trickling in but you need a number and people may or may not be available over the weekend.

It was for a small get together, the invites went out a month before the event, so time was tight to begin with.  I'm not worried about late mailers because the RSVP was by email (all invitees are our generation).  I just didn't want to seem to crazy to be emailing people the day after the deadline!

Oh yeah, then don't worry about it.  They had a month to send you an email.  If they can't do that, they are the crazy ones, not you.

For small gatherings of people our age, I often email the day before the deadline to say I need final answers by tomorrow.

i call the day after the RSVP date. just a friendly "hey, are you guys able to make it to the party?" followed with "great! can't wait to see you!" or "aww that stinks, i hope we can get together soon." and no mention of them being late with response.
