baby shower advice?

Hi!  My mother and I are trying to choose dates to have my baby shower.  I am due on Feb.23.  I know it is typical to have it 2 months before baby comes but I know it would be hard for people to attend because of the holidays  I work as a clerk in a busy department store so from the second week of November  until the end of December are pretty much out of the question if I would want my coworkers to join in the celebration.  I also live in Indiana and the weather here can get pretty treacherous in January.  Do I risk having it in January with crazy weather or do I risk looking really tacky and having it super early (like the first or second week of November)? Any advice would be appreciated.  We are kind of stuck!!  Thank you!

Re: baby shower advice?

  • I'd have it in November.  People will appreciate your avoidance of holiday conflicts and a few weeks off the "optimal" time isn't really a faux pas.

My birthday is in January so I can sympathize with your fear of planning a celebration when there's definitely a severe weather risk.  Congratulations and have a fun shower!

  • I'd say go for the early shower.

Your co-workers will understand with the busy retail season coming up.  Your friends and family should be understanding that work is going to get busy for you soon, the holidays are coming, and the weather is going to get bad.  I wouldn't worry about people not understanding.  Besides, these are all people who know and love you.  I'm sure they will see your reasons for it.

  • We did a shower for a friend of mine in early November when she was due in February. We had great attendance and no one seemed to think it was weird that it was so early. No worries!

  • You're due on mine and my husband's birthday!  I recommend PP suggestion that you have it early.  We had a similar problem with my bridal shower.  I got married in July, but we had to have it in the beginning of April.  I was graduating from college in May, and my grandparents were leaving the day after that to go to my cousin's college graduation and not coming back until the middle of June (my grandma can't fly, so they drive out and spend a month out there to make it worth the long drive).  Since grandma has altzheimer's, it was important to me that she be there (we're trying to make as many memories with her as possible for our sake even though she won't remember for long).  So April it was!  People understand, I promise!
