This morning my neighbor had their 3 dogs outside, and one ran up our driveway as Monty and I came out of the house before I left for work. BTW I'm kinda dressed up b/c we had a lunch thing today. So Monty runs up the driveway to where the neighbor was and jumps on his legs to say hi.
Neighbor picks Monty up and goes to hand him to me, and I'm like, oh can you just put him down? I need to go... and he notices that I have nice clothes on, and is like oh, yeah.. and puts Monty down.
It's happened several times. Why does he always have to pick the dog up so I can get him back? Just leave him be and I will get my own dog, thanks. Ugh, seriously!
Re: This just bothers me
Ugh - That would bother me. I guess I'm lucky my dogs bark and bark at the neighbors no matter how well they know them - so I'm always on the defense and apologetic to people. (And no they aren't big attack dogs - they're dachunds wienerdogs
- so its kinda embarrassing)
Not sure how big Monty is, but maybe next time you can just smile and say - "Hey can you not pick him up - we've really been trying to break him of the needing to be carried thing." Or - "Thanks for getting him back to me, but next time just give him a tug on the collar - I'd hate for him to start getting needy and want to be carried all the time."
As much as it ticks you off - just recognized that they are really trying to help, and try to be polite, tackful, and let them know you would rather them let your dog walk. As annoying as it is - some people are just ignorant and need to be told.
