weekend getaways

My husband has a long weekend coming up in October and I want to plan a little getaway for the two of us. Any suggestions???  He's off sunday through Tuesday so not really a weekend but a few days off.

Thanks

Ren

Re: weekend getaways

  • I don't have any suggestions, as I;m new to the area. ?If you scroll down on the board, some of the girls were talking about Lake Geneva, which sounds like a wonderful weekend getaway! ?GL!
  • Galena is really beautiful. There's a mainstreet shopping area, a winery a little outside of town and good food. We love going there!

  • I don't have a suggestion either. Moving to the area in a few months. ?But, this is a great topic for us newbies to learn more about the area :)?
  • Starved Rock State Park is really nice and not too far away. If you want to go further, a couple of years, DH and I took a long weekend in the Traverse City/Sleeping Bear Dunes area in Michigan, and it was great! We stayed here and loved it: http://www.sleepingbearbb.com/
  • Scroll down below for all the info on Lake Geneva... I have been to Galena but in reality if you aren't staying out at Eagle Ridge Resort about 3 days is about all i can take of Galena, there just isn't as much to do in my opinoin!  Michigan is great i have been to Traverse City (it is a bit of a drive) but it is totally worth it... One of the best places to go from what I have heard in October is Door County in Wisconsin, I have not been there myself but my parents and my mother in law swear by it.  Winery's, shops, romantic atmosphere they love it all.... I would look into that.

  • I'd look into Southwest Michigan and Kettle Moraine area in Wisconsin. ?Both are only a couple hour drive. ?Southwest Michigan has wineries, farms, etc. and the Kettle Moraine will have trails for biking, hiking, etc.
  • I was going to suggest Lake Geneva as well.  We just went for our anniversary in August.  It's really fun for a weekend getaway and there are a lot of great restaurants and shops to look at.  We also got a couple's massage at the hotel.
