How much longer will stuff grow

So this summer I planted grape tomatoes, green beans and squash.  My squash did terrible so I pulled them up awhile ago.  My green beans have a lot of dead leaves but are still slowly producing green beans.  My tomatoes are still growing nicely.  I have a lot of green tomatoes and flowers are still forming.  I am in NJ and it has been cold here in the mornings so I'm not sure how long these types of plants usually last into the fall.  When should I start pulling things up.  Is there anything specific I need to do to the garden to prepare it for the winter.  I'm not a 100% sure if I am going to garden next summer or not.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: How much longer will stuff grow

  • I'm in Northern VA & last year got tomatoes still in October so I'd leave your veg for a bit longer & see how they do.  When you're sick of dealing with them, you can pull everything up.

There's not really anything you HAVE to do for the winter.  Technically, you don't HAVE to pull the tomatoes & beans in the fall, but it's a good idea from a pest management/disease perspective.  I also like to spread compost in the fall so it's all ready for next year, but if you aren't sure you're going to have a garden, I'd skip it.
