Need Recipes for a Party

We're throwing a little get together at our new place next Saturday and I want to make some easy dishes to serve.  I'm not much of a cook though and have NO recipes so I'm hoping you ladies can help me out.

Basically I'm looking for easy to cook party recipes that can serve about 10 to 15 people.

TIA!

Re: Need Recipes for a Party

  • I LOVE the sauce from this recipe.  I make it ahead of time, pour it over frozen meatballs in the crock pot and let them warm up for a few hours.  I always take the lid off for the last hour or so, so that the liquid thickens up.  They are so easy and delicious!

For a delicious (and super easy!) dessert, I love to make fruit pizza on brownies.  You can either bake your own brownies, or else buy a pan of them at Sam's.  Then mix 8 oz of softened cream cheese with 8 oz of cool whip, spread onto the brownies, and top with sliced up fruit.  I especially love strawberries and pineapple.

    Have fun at your party!

  • Buffalo Chicken Dip.  There's a couple different recipes out there depending on if you want to have it in a crockpot or not.
  • Are you serving a meal or doing more appetizer/ mingle type of food?

ETA: What time is the party? Might make a difference in food suggestions.

    More like appetizer/ mingle food.

I told people to come over anytime after 3.  Knowing my friends, that most likely means 5 or 6 Wink

  • If you like spicy: cream cheese and jalepeno dip

For 10-15 people probably 2 packages cream cheese (softened)

Chopped jalepeno pieces (use the ones from the jar)

    A spoonful of sour cream

A few spoonfuls of jalepeno juice from jar

    Serve warm

The sour cream, jalepeno and juice is pretty much to taste, more juice more spice. This is great with tortilla chips. If you have a small 5qt crockpot make it in this to keep it warm, but I usually microwave it.

  • If your friends will show up around 5 or 6ish, you'll probably need something more substantial or more variety since that's right around dinner time. Since you said you don't do much cooking usually, here are some ideas:

    Veggie tray and dip.

    Fruit tray.

Chips and dip. Texas caviar looks and sounds funky, but it's awesome and is always gobbled up at our get togethers: 3 cans black-eyed beans/ peas, 1 small can green chiles, 1 avocado peeled and diced small, 1 green pepper diced small, 1 small red onion diced small, salt and pepper to taste, 1/2 bottle of Wishbone Italian dressing. Drain beans and chiles. Mix all together, let sit in fridge for at least 2 hours, serve with tortilla chips. Yum!

Barbeque sandwiches (cook pork tenderloin with a diced onion and some water or chicken broth in the slow cooker for 6-8 hours, shred, add BBQ sauce, serve on buns), or brats/ hamburgers, or meatballs as PP suggested, or tacos (just keep meat warm in the crockpot after you cook it and have all the fixings set out).

Hawaiian bread and spinach dip (store bought).

Dessert (brownies or rice crispie bars or cupcakes or cookies). I have a super easy and really delicious chocolate chip cookie recipe that people seem to like, let me know if you want it.

Most of the stuff above are things you can buy and require very little cooking. Again, since it's around dinner time I would make sure to have veggie, fruit, protein, and grain available. Nothing kills a party like people needing to leave because they are hungry (unless you don't want people around for very long, ha!).

    Have a great party!

  • I'll second the buffalo chicken dip! And there's a dip with ground sausage, rotele, and some kind of cheese (Velveeta or cheez whiz) that is amazing!

For something super easy, slice up a baguette, top with apricot preserves and a slice of blue cheese. It is so good! That is if you like blue cheese.

Another fan favorite is little smokies warped in crescent rolls. Just cut up the crescent rolls into smaller pieces so they wrap around the mini-hot dogs,. bake for 8-10 minutes and serve with a side of ketchup. They will be the first things to go.

  • I'll 3rd the buffalo chicken dip!!  I have the recipe at home and can grab it at lunch if you need. but off the top of my  head it's 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup of ranch dressing, frank's red hot sauce, and mozarella cheese and 2 large cans of swanson chicken. Mix together and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Another apps that is kinda funky but SSOOOOOO delish is ham and pickle rolls.  mix together 4 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup colby jack cheese and 1 tsp onion powder.  spread onto a slice of ham. Place pickle on the center and roll.  freeze for about 20 minutes so it's easier to slice and serve on ritz crackers.  These are GONE at my parties immediately.

My chicken taco dip is a must at any of Brent's family gatherings and SO easy.  Cook up some cooked chicken breast..(if I'm ina hurry, I buy the package of precooked pre sliced chicken)  dice and add 1 package of taco seasoning and about 1/2 cup water.   layer refried beans, chicken mix, onions, sour cream, cheese, lettuce, tomato and jalapenos.  Serve with tortilla chips.

  • Rueben Dip

7 1/2 oz. corn beef, cut into bite-sized pieces

    8 oz. shredded Cheddar Cheese

    8 oz. shredded Swiss Cheese

can   Saurkraut (can should be approx. soup-size), drained

Note: I use Bavarian style--it's sweeter, with a touch of caraway

    3/4   cup mayonnaise

4 oz. sliced black olives, drained

Mix together and bake @ 350 degrees for 30 minutes

I LOVE THIS STUFF. serve with rye bread, crackers, whatever.
