Wine, Baked goods and video games
Hi everyone! I'm new here. ^_^ Just got married, back from honeymoon, but I still want to party! So I'm thinking of planning a wine/baked goods and video games party. Since I'm new at party planning (vs impromptu and casual), what are some cool tips for decorating and baking? I can cover the wine part. haha
Also, should I do invites using evite?
Thank you,
Trina
Re: Wine, Baked goods and video games
I guess if it were me, I wouldn't find it necessary to decorate. But if you're drinking wine, you should have some food other than baked goods. I would do heavy apps and desserts. It also depends on the amount of people you're having though.
If you're just doing desserts, you could do petite fours, mini cupcakes, brownies, blondies, mini pies, mini cheesecakes, etc.
As for evites...if it's a pretty casual thing, then I guess it would be fine but I'm not a fan of evites.
I think the important thing is to entertain in your own style. Don't feel like you have to throw parties that are super-planned if that isn't what you're into.
If you like video games, wine and baked goods, make it a casual get-together and don't worry about decorations or fancy invites.
You asked for tips on baking--really, just decide what you like and make it, whether that's chocolate chip cookies from pre-made dough or the fanciest layer cake from scratch. For parties with some active entertainment (like gaming), I'd suggest single-serve stuff like cookies, brownies, cupcakes, etc. They are easy for people to grab and eat without needing a plate and a fork and you can try them to make sure they are good before you serve them. You can't really test-drive a full cake before you serve it.
Good luck!

Thank you both for the comments! I think I'll not concentrate on the decorations and keep it simple with the baking and the games. I agree that perhaps we should have some appetizers as well to help with the wine. Maybe it becomes all finger foods.
Many of my friends got me wedding gifts that are either related to baking or alcohol. So part of the reason for the party is to use the new items! hehe
I think that is great idea to have your friends over and to use their gifts to host the party! :-)
I TIA the pps who said to go with finger foods. I am big on color, so I would suggest to buy some fun napkins for your event. Other than that, I would not suggest decorating. I would, however, make sure that everyone has a place to sit and knows where the bathroom is. Normally I would suggest background music, but with the gaming, I think that it wouldn't be a good fit. GL and let us know how it goes.
