Ugh... really!?

So DH and I decided to order our picture thank yous from shutterfly because I had an awesome coupon and they came out to about $55, including envelopes (but not postage).  Well they look beautiful... except they're not effing cards!  The website said 4x7 photo card.  And I assumed that this meant a folding card.  Nope, it means a really pretty looking long photo with "thank you" and our names and wedding date on them.

We don't really feel like spending more money to go about getting real cards, especially since these are super adorable.  The text in one of the text spots says: "Thank you so much for joining in the celebration of our marriage with us!"  Obviously this is super generic and we would like to write something more personal.  Would it be super tacky if we got some cute stationary and included it with the photo card?  I'm a little upset about this misunderstanding, but I guess that's what you get when you order online.

  • Hmmm...I was going to get the same cards. Can you write on the back of the card?

Hmmm...I was going to get the same cards. Can you write on the back of the card?

I had thought of this, however it has a small (probably 12 point font sized) www.shutterfly.com right in the middle of the back.  I don't think it can be written over very easily without being obnoxious.

  • Darn.

I think putting a card in it would personalize it. That stinks that you have to go that extra step.

Or if you like to DIY you could make a backing to the card and write a thank you on the back.

I have to rethink my plan for thank yous now too. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Is there any way to hand write on the back of the card, like tape cardstock to the back and write?  Kinda sounds almost like a postcard.  DH and MIL send each other postcards for special occasions, never actual folded cards.  My friend who get married in June wrote TYs on a piece of cardstock with their monogram at the top.  It wasn't technically a 'card' either.  I'd be more inclined to keep the photo card and just write on the back of it.

This is totally just me, but I think it's a little bit of a waste to get stationary to write something.  Because then if I was a guest and got the stationary thank you with the photo, I'd be like, "Why did they include a photograph?" and it would probably get tossed.  But that's the hatred-of-photo-magnet-STDs coming out of me.  I think the photo TYs are a super cute idea and really personalizes the TY note.

  • I agree with PP's.  Keep the card and turn it into a kind of postcard.

  • I would try using a fine point Black Sharpie and write a short note on the back?

  • I know this doesn't help you but for everyoen else who hasn't done it yet - shutterfly does have folding cards that you can put pictures on the front of because I have one that I received from a wedding last summer.
  • Another idea - I made mine on vistaprint, I made them postcards so I could write a message on the back.
  • I used Shutterfly as well - there is a 40% off entire purchase right now until next Wednesday too!  Mine are definitely folding cards.

Sorry you didn't get what you thought you ordered!

  • Thanks for the advice, girls!  I'll just make the best out of the situation and figure something out.  I'm still kinda bummed that they aren't what I thought they were, but the idea of putting cardstock on the back might work.  Otherwise, people can ignore the little shutterfly address on the back and we'll write it with a black sharpie.  I knew you ladies would help me find a way to remedy the situation!
  • I almost made the same mistake on Shutterfly!  I had them all done and set to order then I realized that they weren't cards and I went back and ordered something else.  I can't believe there's a 40% off sale right now!!  I JUST ordered them like 3 days ago!

  • I really like your idea of including a little stationary card along with the picture.  You can pick up some small card stock cards at Hobby Lobby.  Or just buy some ivory card stock and cut the paper up into small cards.  That way it wouldn't be that expensive.  This way you can still include a personalized note.

  • I was going to suggest getting folded cards from Paper Source, and mounting the photo on the front. Then you can write on the inside of the card.
