Need more info about Chicago Neighborhoods

I am going to be moving to Chicago for work and will be there for 6-12 months as far as I know at this point.  Working in the Loop area.  I am late 20's professional single woman and curious what neighborhoods might be the best.  I am torn because I think I might like living near work and the theatres but also might like Lincoln Park/Gold Coast area.  Any advice on what neighborhoods to check out and which to stay away from?  I am over the early 20's bar scene and parties but don't want to be with the retirees either. I come from a small town so this is going to be a big change (but I have lived in Baltimore and Nashville so I am comfortable in cities too)

TIA!

Re: Need more info about Chicago Neighborhoods

  • I live in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area and I love it.  Very much a late 20's, early 30's scene, laid back, but yet super close the loop (you can hop right on the Blue Line which takes you into the Loop).

I moved here as a single gal at 28 and I'm still in the neighborhood at 31.  I love it here.  It's safe, although no place in any city is completely safe.

There are a number of great neighborhoods...I just think mine is the best.  =)

  • Ditto Wicker Park/Bucktown.

Lincoln park may be a little young for you as it is near DePaul, so it is mostly young 20s.

I love lincoln square, but it would be a bit more of a commute from the west loop.

    Good luck!

  • Ditto Wicker Park/Bucktown.  There's lots of great shops, restaurants, and bars, and the scene is a little older than Lincoln Park and Wriggleyville, but definitely still hip.  I would stay away from the Gold Coast, only because apartments there can be pricey and you can get more for your money in other areas.  HTHs.

  • I ditto what everybody else said, and also wanted to say WELCOME to Chicago! It's a great place, I'm sure you'll love it. Let us know if you have any questions!
  • I really like Andersonville and Lincoln Square. Both have a good night life and good restaurants and are both by major trains & buses. I moved to Ravenswood in my late 20's after living in Boys Town. It was a nice change, quiet and more apartment for my $.
