We live in Omaha and we are planning a weekend trip to KC. Our son is 1 years old, and we just want to plan a small getaway for 2 days. Any ideas of fun things that we can do? I was thinking of Great Wolf Lodge? Has anyone been there? I'm afraid he might still be too young for any of the activities? And, I read about a dinosaur exhibit at a restaurant?
Any ideas you can recommend? Thanks!
Re: KC Trip for infant??
I have not been to Great Wolf Lodge myself, but it does look like they have a pool area for little ones. From what I have heard from my students (6-7 year olds) it might be more suited for older swimmers since there are slides, waterfalls, etc. Maybe someone who has been can weigh in...
The T-Rex Cafe is the dino restaurant. Again, my students say it is fun, but I think it is pretty commercialized (similar to a rainforest cafe and you have to pay to do the digging, etc).
If you are looking for more "authentic" dinosaurs it looks like Union Station has a dino exhibit this fall. They also do train stuff which could be fun...http://www.unionstation.org/exhibitsevents.html
Right by Union Station is Crown Center. They often have kid events and a restaurant called "Fritz's" where your food comes in trains. A lot of my friends take their kids there for fun.
Here is just a general calendar of upcoming kid events that I found. Maybe something might spark your interest. http://www.kckidsfun.com/events-calendar/
A lot of my friends take their kiddos to Deanna Rose. It has lots of animals for the kids to feed and pet. I have heard many positve things about it. http://opkansas.org/Things-to-See-And-Do/Deanna-Rose-Childrens-Farmstead
Hope this helps!
I agree with pp - Fritz's is fun and I've heard great things about Deanna Rose Farmstead. It looks like it's only open until Oct. 31; I'm not sure when you're planning to visit. I haven't been to Great Wolf but my impression was also that it was more for older kids.
My kiddo had a good time at Wonderscope when he was about 1. They have a water play room (bring a change of clothes!), art area, farm-themed room, a room specifically for babies & toddlers with climbing things and tactile walls, and a room with hands-on science of motion experiments that DS really liked - he was too small to actually manipulate a lot of those things himself, but loved watching us launch the golf balls down the ramps, etc.
One of the local parent mags, KC Parent (which might be useful for a calendar of kid-friendly events) just published a "places to go" supplement that's available here: http://www.kcgoingplaces.com/
Have a great trip!
