1st Anniversary Ideas?

I know the first year is paper, does anyone have some unique ideas? I just don't know what to get my husband.

Re: 1st Anniversary Ideas?

  • My husband and I didn't do the paper thing other than in the cards attached to our gifts.  However, when my brother and SIL celebrated their first year anniversary, I thought he was very creative.  When she came home from work that day, he had 365 sticky notes (each with a reason he loves her) in a trail leading to the bedroom.  When she got there, there was candles and a dozen roses.  He had made dinner and bought her a brand new outfit (that's a tradition in their relationship because he likes to shop and she doesn't) for her to wear to work the next day.  Basically, my advice is to do what feels best for the two of you, but put a new twist  on it.
  • I like the sticky note idea.

For our one year DH got me concert tickets, and I got him a gift certificate to his favorite sports store.  Nothing too exciting.

  • I bought us a journal. On our first anniversary, we each came up with a question.  We both answered our question and the other person's question.  We did it for our second and will keep on doing it.  We also had a really nice dinner.

  • We didn't exchange gifts, we took a long weekend trip instead.  We had a wonderful time and have tons of memories, instead of some thing that got put away in a drawer or closet.
  • I got earrings with the paper being that document you get with diamonds. I'm getting (yup, I'm late!) my husband hockey tickets to a very special game coming up soon :)
  • Tickets to a game or a concert could be nice, but if you're on a more limited budget, you could get him a magazine subscription.
  • I got him football tickets and he went with a little looser interpretation getting me a photo in a silver frame that matched our cake service/flutes/vases/candlesticks.

Really, tickets to anything or a GC to anywhere is easy for paper.  Does he have a favorite book?  Maybe you could find a signed copy or a limited edition.  Or a photo/magazine with a favorite musician's or athlete's signature?

  • You can go onto shutterfly.com, and make lots of things with paper, like a calander of memories from your first year of marriage, you could make a photobook, lots of things, but you can upload photos, that way it is a keepsake and something that both of you will have for a long time. Congrats on your first year, and good luck.

  • I took some construction paper and cut it into 50 pieces and wrote a reason why I love him on each piece and put them into a jar, and decorated it with fabric paint.

It's not as extravagant as some of these but we have a rule to spend less than 20 dollars each on anniversary gifts.  Unless it it a big one (5, 10, 20)

This is great, and I love idea of not spending over 20 dollars.
