Indoor lemon tree suggestions

anyone have one? I'm so excited about the thought of fresh lemons. I bought it this past spring. I live in the south and mine has been growing on the patio all summer, and has grown a lot. I'm thinking of bringing it in next month before it frosts. Any suggestions on what you do to care for yours or when and how you prune it? Thanks

Re: Indoor lemon tree suggestions

  • I have a little dwarf meyer lemon tree that I got early this spring. I've read you can bring them in keep them in a sunny location, rotating and watering on schedule (they don't need tons of water). I also read you can wrap Christmas tree lights around the base of the pot and put them on to keep the soil at a warmer temperature. Sorry I don't have more advice, we haven't braved a winter yet but I am so pleased with the tree so far!

  • I have one. I bring it in for the winter and leave it my bathroom. I water it once in a while.

You need to bring it in when the temps start dropping below 50 at night.

This is the 3rd year I've had the plant and the first year I have fruit. I have 2 lemons. The flowered before I brought them out in April and they still aren't 100% yellow.

  • We've had our Meyer lemon out on the patio all summer, and just brought it in last weekend when the temps started getting into the 30s at night.  Depending on how far South you live, you may be able to leave it outside year round in a sunny, sheltered location.  If you need to bring it inside, just put it in a sunny window until spring.  Just remember: Harden it off again before leaving it outside 24/7 in the summer.  It will get sunburned if you expose it to the sun for long periods at a time after spending all winter behind glass.  Ours is on rollers, which helps a lot with this!
