Another Colorado nestie needs help!

Hello, San Diego nesties!  I'm thinking I might surprise DH for his 30th birthday with a trip to San Diego to see the game against the Broncos on December 28th.  I've been to San Diego a few times, but only been to SDSU and Coronado. Smile So two questions:

1) any suggestions on lodging/restaurants/etc near the stadium?  Do we really *need* to rent a car?  If we come for four days, what else should we do?

2) anyone looking to sell their Chargers tickets for that game?

Okay, that was like four questions, sorry!  You can email me with ticket info, if you'd like. toswald at psdschools dot org.  TIA!!!

Re: Another Colorado nestie needs help!

  • The trolley goes to the stadium so if I were you I would stay downtown and take the trolley to the game.  That way there is more to do within walking distance for the rest of the time you are there.  There is not much out by the stadium so I wouldn't recommend staying there.  You could also stay in Mission Valley but I don't like that area very much. My preference would be downtown or Little Italy area.

As far as renting a car it really depends on what you want to do.  It is harder to get to the beaches on public transportation from downtown and likewise it is harder to get the stadium from the beaches on public transportation.  What other things are you looking to do while you are here?  That might help us to give you more solid advice.

  • I'm not super sure what we would do - probably Sea World and/or the zoo. Is there a lot to do downtown as far as shopping/eating/drinking?

  • Sea World and the Zoo are both close to Downtown.  The zoo is right next to it.  This area is called the Gaslamp District and there is also Little Italy right there.  There is a ton of bars and restaurants in the area.  It is also just across from Coronado which you can easily take the water ferry over to.  Since December is not necessarily "beach" weather I would suggest staying downtown.

I see you are in Fort Collins, did you go to CSU?

  • I'm going there now!  I'm getting my principal license and working on another master's.  I teach h.s. here right now.  DH went there for his undergrad and grad programs, though.

    Did you go here?

  • No, I went to SDSU but my husband went to CSU.  We have a bunch of friends here in SD that went there also so we go to the football game between SDSU and CSU when they are here.  We also have to go to the bar to watch the season opener against CU every year. I was never into SDSU sports when I went there but the CSU fans are so loyal!  DH just bought a new hat last week when we were there.
