Can anyone recommend:

  • A good vet, preferably holistic
  • An OBGYN
  • An allergist
  • A PCP
  • A dentist
  • An eye doctor
  • A good massage therapist
  • A chiropractor
  • A hair salon or stylist
  • Someone trustworthy for Brazililan/bikini waxes
  • A good place to get nails done
We're new to the area and live in Hillsboro.  But I'm willing to travel for anyone who is absolutely fantastic.  Thank you!  :)

Re: Can anyone recommend:

  • Did you check the moving bio mentioned below? I think it has some recommendations in it.
  • I thought the bio had some recommendations too, but I just looked and couldn't find them. Maybe I'm just not use to the new format?

A lot of people use the Women's Healthcare Associates for Ob/Gyns. All of their drs seem great.
I recommend the Forest Heights Vets at SW Barnes/Miller, but they aren't holistic. They do have a natural pet supply store in the same parking lot though.
And, I like Magnum Opus for hair. I go to Komo.

  • I didn't see any recs in the bios, either, which is why I asked here.  :)

    Thanks for the suggestions, PDX!

  • I have heard good things about The Face Place for waxing. They are on Hoyt Street, right across the street from the main Post Office.

    website is www.waxqueen.com

  • Have you searched Yelp for recs/reviews? I find it's not as helpful for me as it was in CA. Citysearch, Google and Yahoo seem to be more helpful for reviews.
  • Oh...the FacePlace looks nice. I'll need to check that out. I am not sold on the new lady I've been going to.

If you're going to be on Hoyt street I liked this place for mani/pedi.

  • I agree - yelp isn't as helpful here as it was in Boston.  I'll check citysearch and the others, though.  I'd forgotten they existed.  I could be I'm yelping in Hillsboro instead of Portland since that's where we're at, but . . . :)
    • A good vet, preferably holistic: We go to Rose City Vet and love them.  They're not holistic but I still highly recommend them.  They're in SE on Powell.
    • An OBGYN:  Dr Susan Johnson.  She's awesome--a very real approach.
    • An allergist
    • A PCP:  Dr Ellen Michaelson.  Again, a very real, sincere approach.  She takes time to get to know you and chat with you and I feel like she looks at a more natural end of things rather than throwing a prescription at you.
    • A dentist:  Dr Kazra Rafia...he's awesome and has the coolest doctor's office I've ever been in.  Plus, a really cool/nice staff.
    • An eye doctor
    • A good massage therapist:  Diane Jensen is amazing.  She does incredible work.
    • A chiropractor:  Dr Suzanne Lady is the best.  Her staff is wonderful and she is just an all around amazing woman.
    • A hair salon or stylist:  Patti Green at Salon 77 is who I've been seeing for over 5 years.
    • Someone trustworthy for Brazililan/bikini waxes:  Dorene Klippel at The Face Place...when I moved to Portland 8 years ago, she was one of the first beauty treatments I've received.  It's a testament to how good she is that I'm still going back.  She also does amazing facials.
    • A good place to get nails done:  Onyx is pretty decent.  I tend to go for the quick mani/pedi so I don't really have any "nice" places to recommend.
I would also add that Yelp has a ton of great reviews on their website...I myself am rather addicted to both writing about new places I've been and reading them.

  • Oh, and definitely Yelp for Portland rather than Hillsboro.  I think it's beefed up quite a bit in the last year.
  • Thanks mrspdxbride!  That's all very helpful.  :)
  • Here are my recommendations sorry so long:

For an OBGYN, I love Dr.'s Bird and Bennett at Tuality in Hillsboro however if I were closer in as you are (I live in Forest Grove) I'd go to the Women's Center at Peterkort.

For a PCP I can't rave enough about Dr. Karen Wright. She's just off of 26 and 217. She is amazing! She's down to earth and really listens to you.

For waxing and a massage therapist I recommend The Pointe Day Spa. Its in the Hawthorn Farms Athletic Center in Hillsboro just off of Cornell. For a Brazillian I Recommend Susan and for a massage therapist I recommend Alyssa.

For a Chiropractor I recommend Dr. Illo in Tigard, he does a different type of chiropractic care. He's in very high demand and therefore runs really late and gets later as the day goes on so if you're trying to squeeze in an appt try to be one of his first patients of the day. I've also heard rave reviews about Shane Espinoza (sp?) in North Plains but have yet to go to him.

My friend loves the nail salon at Orenco Station. I have yet to go, but she says they're great! My personal fave. is Janet Allen-Vilson off of Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy. in Portland but that's quite a drive and she only does natural nails.

For hair, my highest recommendation is Nathan at Legends Salon on NW 21st in Portland. He will give you a superb cut! For a closer in recommendation, again The Pointe Day Spa but at their Bethany location. Brigette is my favorite.

    Good Luck!
