Please recommend your favorite winery ~

DH and would like to go to a winery this fall and I've only been to one named Cave Winery.

What is your favority winery and why?

Re: Please recommend your favorite winery ~

  • I like Montelle Winery in Augusta.  I don't think you can bring food in unless it is a birthday cake or something special for that.  Also, they don't allow buses and limos in their lot or to drop off people.  They have a nice deck and a covered area of the deck and an inside room if it is chilly.  The food is good too (expensive, but it is at all wineries.)  It doesn't get as muddy as some of the other wineries I've been to and the deck has concrete and wood so you are not sitting on an incline on a grassy hill (even at a picnic table) like I was today at another winery. For wines, I like Stone Hill and Adam Puchta, which are both in Herman, MO.  I think Augusta is closer to the St. Louis area but it might be because I have gone there more and you take 40 to Highway 94 and then Montelle is on 94 and the others are up in Augusta.
  • Crown Valley in St. Genevieve.  You can bring picnic baskets, they have a ton of great wines, their bed and breakfasts are a great deal, and they provide transportation to the wineries if you stay at them.  I also like traveling to the ones in Herman.  The Amtrak runs from Kirkwood and drops you off right there.  They also have a small brewery that is nice.  I think the scenery at both are great.

  • I really like Hermanhoff in Hermann. The wine is probably one of my favorite local wines, but its in the little town and not out in the countryside.  You can bring in your own food, it can accommodate large groups, you can buy food and although overpriced isn't ridiculous. Covered patio and open area and in door space. Just really liked it.
  • I got married here so I have to say it is my fav...Chandler Hill Vineyards.  Great wine, great food, great music, great view.
  • i love the herman wineries! thats where i am from, it is so beautiful here!
