Jackie- canned pumpkin

So I went to the grocery store today and decided to check if we had any pumpkin and we had 8 cans. Ben talked to someone there and they said that there was some kind of fungus that attacked the harvest this year and that they are not going to be getting anymore this year.......at all. I got 4 cans for some baking but I think I am going to experiment with making a pumpkin pie this year with fresh pumpkin.

There was a shortage last year too due to the weather and because of the small harvest last year they are still short. I saw a lady buying some at my grocery store today but don't know how many cans total there were.

I plan on stocking up on it this week or next.

Whaaaa!? I'm not a huge pumpkin fan but I know tons of people who are so this could be bad if its all over!

There are pumpkins galore at the stores here.  I haven't checked or noticed anything with canned pumpkin.

I think it is just with canned pumpkin.

It's just the "sugar pumpkin" that they can. Not the pumpkin you carve.

Glad to know there really is a shortage and the lady at Kroger wasn't trying to trick me so she could buy all of it herself.

I want to know how your pie turns out! I'm too much of a pumpkin newbie to expirement at all!

I made my first pumpkin something last year with a real pumpkin and it wasn't as hard as I thought. Everyone loved it! My husband loves the seeds baked too, so that was helpful because I HATE them.

Two grocery stores today, zero cans of pumpkin. Fresh pumpkin for me too.

We went back today and bought the last 3 cans at our store. We now have 7.
