XP: Party planning food help

We're having DD's 1st birthday party this weekend and I'm ordering bbq from Red Hot and Blue. How much meat do I order? There will be about 15 adults and 6 one year olds. I'm getting pulled pork and pulled chicken. The order form says 1 pound feeds 3 people. The party is 11am-2pm. I'll also have: potato salad, guacamole, cupcakes, fruit, veggies, hummus.

If you recommend an odd number of pounds, would you get more chicken or pork?

Thanks ladies! I've been toiling over this for several weeks!

Re: XP: Party planning food help

  • I would order 7-8 lbs to be safe.  Plan that around the adults, not the kids.  When I worked for a banquet team, we always counted on 1.5 times more than what we needed.  It's always better to have too much rather than too little.

As far as the pork vs. chicken, it depends on your group.  Down here, I've never even heard of pulled chicken bbq, so it would be more pork, hands down.  If pork bbq is the norm where you are, get more pork.

  • DH and I hosted his family for Christmas last year and did barbeque.  I can't remember how much he ordered but we did put lots into gallon sized freezer bags and were able to thaw and eat it later on.  Its a great meal to save if you do end up ordering too much.

  • I'd say at least 6 pounds.  If you have some decent eaters go gor 7.  Like pp said this stuff freezes great.
  • I'd go for 7 lbs with extra chicken only because most of our friends won't eat pork.
