Wildlife Safari in Winston

Anyone been there?

Can you pack a lunch?

How big is it? Can it take the entire day?

Do you walk a lot? or are you in the car most of the time?

TIA!

Re: Wildlife Safari in Winston

  • It has been years since I was there. I know we loved it as kids :) I do remember we were in our car the whole time. I don't think you can get out. I think it was only a few hours.

    Have fun!

  • I went as a child, so it has been 20 or so years, but I think it is pretty much the same. You just drive through in your car and they have a visitors center/gift shop. It was a fun side trip for a kid, but I don't think of it as a destination.

  • It is a kid thing to do. :-) I remember going to the San Diego one when I was seven and love it. My dh has never been, he loves Cheetahs and we're into photography so it's an opportunity for some great shots!

  • You're in the car most of the time. We went last year with DH's grandma as she lives close by there. I thought it was great fun and took some wonderful pictures. There is a small area where you can walk and they have smaller animals there. In the summer there is more to do for kids.I thought it was great fun but we only spent a few hours there.

Take a long zoom lens and enjoy. Here is a link to my pics, sorry there are so many:

  • Esther: I'm so excited to go now! Those are some awesome photos!!! Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks! Like I said, if you have a DSLR get a long zoom lens. I have the Canon Rebel XT and used the 75-300mm lens with IS for these shots. Most of them were taken from the car. The bear loop was a little bit scary as you're not supposed to stop, but the car in front of us did, so we had to as well. Then when I was shooting photos of this one bear, I found out there was another one laying right beside our car, not even 5 feet away! Luckily he was too lazy to get up, but he still startled me ;).
