Serving caramel apples at kids party

Hi everybody! I'm hosting a Snow White Party this Sat. and my DD has her heart set on serving caramel apples at the party (poison apple in story and all)...

I considered making them for favors - but we are decorating small hanging mirrors with gems mined by the dwarfs (at DD's request).

I don't really want to offer a whole apple per kid/adult because our guest list is near 60... so is there a way to slice them and serve them? I have seen the mini apples made with melon ballers and I'm not crazy about them. Any ideas?

How quickly will they go brown? Should I treat them with something (lemon juice)? Help!!!

Thanks for your advice in advance!!

Re: Serving caramel apples at kids party

  • I thought about apples with caramel dip too - do you think that is just the easier way to go??
  • My first thought was the Mrs. Prindlables huge apples.  I've seen them on QVC and when they do a demo they just cut down the 4 sides and then slice them.  You could do something along these lines and slice them down as you are serving cake.

Or pre-slice and dunk the slices in pineapple juice to keep from browning.  It does the same thing as lemon juice, but doesn't give the tart.  You could serve with a caramel dip, or predip half the apple in caramel.

  • Thank you for the tip about pineapplejuice. I did not know that! Great idea... :)
  • Not sure if mice fit into the theme somehow, but I saw a really cute idea somewhere where they took apple slices on sticks, dipped in caramel and then w/ little eye/ear/nose decorations on the ends to look like mice.
  • Since there are so many toppings that could go on a caramel apple (we've used, mini choc chips-white and milk, all kids of nuts, coconut, mini m&ms, jimmies, etc.)--you could do apple slices and have an "apple sundae bar" and have the kids drizzle their own sauce and toppings on apple slices....this cuts down on your prep work too and it might be fun for the kids.
