New to Oak Ridge, TN

Hello! My name is Kristy and I have a 1 year old daughter. My husband is in the Navy and won't be out to TN for another year. In the mean time we are in the process of buying a house here and my daughter and I are staying with our in laws. I would love to meet some people and/or couples. My husband and I are very social and love to entertain. I am originally from Ohio but we have been living in San Diego for the past 3 years. In SD we often had poker parties, bbq's, and game nights with friends and would love to do that here too!!

Re: New to Oak Ridge, TN

  • Hey Kristy! Welcome to the area! My husband and I have lived in Knoxville for a little over a year now! How are you enjoying TN so far? We enjoy it so far, and love to party as well!! :)
  • So far I am really enjoying tn. My car won't be here till the beginning of next month so I haven't really been able to drive around and check things out. It is def. way different from San Diego but I am still loving it.

Where did you guys move here from? What kind of things have you and your husband done here for fun? I saw you are a student... do you go to UT?

  • We moved here from Charleston, SC. It definitely is different! There isn't as much to do here than in Charleston. We have met some great couples so far, and we like to hang out, grill, have parties, etc. We enjoy being outdoors, so we like to go hiking and camping (we haven't gone yet this year). I am a student, taking classes online right now. I'm glad you are enjoying TN so far! It will be much better once you get your car and are able to drive around!! What do you and your husband do for fun?
  • Wonder who those great couples are that you mentioned? Wink

  • Hi! I've lived in Oak Ridge for a little over 2 years now. If you're interested, there is a large "mommy group" here that has some activities every week that involve children. Send me your e-mail address and I can give you more information or get you signed up for our Google group/list serve!

  • I would def. be interested in the mommy group. My daughter is 13 months and loves to play with other children and I would love to get to know other mom's. My e mail is swiftmnky@hotmail.com.

    Thank you!!!

  • Well, my husband and I are very social people. We enjoy entertaining. We also love to go camping and hiking. My husband is in the Navy and he is still in California until June of next year so right now it is just my daughter and I in TN. I will be starting classes in January so that will some what keep be busy. Without him it's kinda hard for me to do all the active things we like to do... much easier with two people when you have a very active 13 month old. lol. Evalee and I still get out as much as we can though. She is like us and likes to be out and about and around people.

My husband is coming in for a week next week so that is exciting for us. We close on our house on Monday and my in laws are going to keep the baby overnight so we can have some much needed adult time... we are going to act like the mid twenty couple that we are and do some partying that we haven't done in a loooooong while. lol.

What are you going to school for? How did you meet the couples that you have met out here? When we lived in sd we had an apt. and being that close to people is how met our good friends there but now in a house with older neighbors... well it's all a bit harder.

  • Glad that you and your husband will get to spend some time together! Congrats on closing on your house! You said you start classes in Jan. What are you going to school for? I'm trying to get my bachelor degree in business. My husband and I have meet some other couples through work, and actually met one of the couple's on this website! There are plenty of groups and things to do, but if you ever want to get together for lunch let me know!
  • My husband is from Oak Ridge and we spend quite a bit of time there visiting my inlaws! You MUST MUST MUST go to the Soup Kitchen. Its over near the hospital and it looks kinda dumpy, but if you love soup, its amazing! Hope you and your daughter are settling well!

  • Hi! If you have a little girl, she'll love the Oak Ridge Children's Museum: www.childrensmuseumofoakridge.org. There's a lifesize doll house there for her to play in. I live in OR, too and am the director of the Convention & Visitors Bureau. Visit our website at www.OakRidgeVisitor.com for info on all activities and attractions. We also have an email that goes out once a week that has things to do over the weekend. If you are interested, post your email here...that goes for all of you who may be interested. I've lived in TN my whole life and moved to OR five years ago. It is a great place, family oriented and lots of great activities for the kids, a Halloween party, Breakfast with Santa, Easter Egg Hunt, etc. Welcome!
