What entertaining item do you NOT use?
I think we all have stuff that never gets pulled out for parties.
On one end of the spectrum, I have a crystal punch bowl from DH's grandmother which has yet to be used. On the other end, a football bowl with a mechanized swinging lid that plays the Monday Night Football theme. Um, my sister and her then-boyfriend gave it to us.
Re: What entertaining item do you NOT use?
I got something like this for last year's Christmas exchange with DH's step-sisters. It immediately went into the Goodwill bin.
This reminds me that I need to put an end to these stupid Christmas name exchanges.
Giant 50 Cup Coffee Urn from the '60's. It was my Grandmothers. It is awesome - but I've only used it twice.
A fondu pot/set. We've kept it because we like the idea of it, but still haven't broken it out yet.
I actually use most of my entertaining items - I end to give away / donate anything that I don't use because we have a smaller house (and there are so many other entertaining items I'd like!).
We have used ours a few times, but we love ours. Maybe you should get a fondue cookbook? The friend who got us our fondue pot as a shower gift, got us a fondue cookbook to go with it. I wouldn't know where to start with one without it, so I was really glad she did.
I have a small book and some photocopied recipes. I just think that a) I forget about it, and b) when I entertain, I don't like the idea of fondue for large numbers of people.... its not very often that we only have 4-6 people over, which is when I think it would work better
My mother thought I just couldn't live without a samovar. Never heard of one? Well, think super fancy silver coffee urn with burner underneath. Right, because I'll just use it all the time, mom
The one she got me is actually the same as this one Eddie Ross found in some flea market.
I actually use all my other serving dishes because I entertain so often. Everyone here uses silver platters and crystal bowls for everyday events like cookouts - I think it might be a "if you're going to entertain, entertain" kind of thought, but I'm not originally from here, so I can't say for certain. All I know is that it's convenient to not have two sets of serving dishes - all I have is good ones lol!

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
A jelly serving set. I'd never even heard of one until we received it as a gift. It's very nice, which is why I haven't gotten rid of it, but I still don't see myself using it.
Also, it's not for entertaining, but we received a large ceramic cow that holds cooking utensils. It's scary.
I did a fondue dinner party for 10 one time--had a friend bring over her fondue pot so we had two cheeses for apps, a broth and an oil for dinner and 2 chocolates for dessert. I was a little worried about the logistics but it turned out great! Everyone was up moving around, the spaces between cleaning out the pots from one course and filling with the next course were perfect for conversation and drink refills.
But you're right, with one pot, you can really only do max 4 guests.

I almost always use ours for cheese/chocolate only. Just yesterday I made some chocolate fondue for a party. Its a great dessert option because it really gives people the option of getting exactly how much dessert they want (a bite or a whole plate)
I have a fondu set as well that i had never used until someone gave me the idea that it was great for doing choc covered strawberries and now I am going to use it as like a do it yourself dessert item. I also have not gotten touse my china yet.
We have a group of friends that have Fondue get-togethers where everyone brings their pot and someone is responsible for cheese, meal type dipping and chocolate. We haven't been a part of it yet (friend of a friend we started hanging out with) but they have a blast and everyone comes up with some neato stuff. DH and I do our own Fondue and its nice on like the weekend because we will graze around, fix some food and eat on a leisurely basis.
