Is Summer Gone?!?

Being this is my first fall/winter I'm curious if my days of sun are limited.

Is it time to pack up my summer best and start shopping for everything waterproof?

Re: Is Summer Gone?!?

  • Pretty much. It is unlikely we'll have many more nice, sunny, warm days. I wouldn't pack away all your summer clothes yet, but if you need some fall clothes, now is a good time to go shopping.

  • Will it start raining soon?

I'm loving the crispy air, the yellow flowers on the ground, the red and orange trees, the cumulus clouds...aw, my first autumm!

  • Oh tear, but I am very excited for fall. I've never really had seasons before. Then I'll just have to figure out how to make my style waterproof.

I hear an umbrella in the NW is a faux pas??

  • We start to see more rain this time of year, but we'll probably still have some good fall days (crisp and clear) before it gets too rainy. As far as umbrellas go, I think most locals just see them as more trouble than they're worth. We don't get as many downpours as other places, and there are usually breaks in the rain, so you can get by without one. I keep one in my car and probably only use it 3-4 times a year. I think it is mainly a faux pas when used in light drizzles :)

  • Well, I am 100% native Oregonian, and I use an umbrella even in a light drizzle!!  I seriously have 4-5 umbrellas in my car, and use them constantly.  I'd rather take an extra minute to get out of the car, then get all wet walking to a Blazer game, the mall, my work, etc.  You can get cute cheap umbrellas at target and Fred Meyer for less than $10, then if you forget it somewhere, not a big deal!

I don't think summer is "gone", but on it's way out.  The weather is supposed to be back into the 80's this weekend, it's usuallly nice until right before Halloween, but this year has been SO wierd, I don't know what will happen this fall and winter!

  • I think fall in PDX is pretty decent; the unrelenting rain doesn't usually start until November, so the fun isn't over yet!

I don't know why some people are weird about umbrellas; this native Oregonian uses them all the time.

  • This weekend felt like a tease. But I'll take every taste I can get ;)

Hope everyone got out and enjoyed it.
