Re: I think Aldi is open...
A ghetto grocery store??? Oh man...field trip for me this week!!
Paul and I did check out Whole Foods on Saturday and nearly died looking at the baked goods, like the Key Lime Pie cupcakes...
Now, tell me...are the bakery items made with a bunch of healthy food stuff? Or is it evil like Dunkin Donuts? We didn't buy anything, but they sure looked delicious...and their flower section was beautiful!
I did almost buy two giant ass pumpkins that they had. 2 for $12 is a good deal for pumpkins! However, they would rot pretty quickly if I bought them now...
Aldi is not a ghetto store - at least it wasn't in NJ. Anyways....they mostly carry their own brand and are VERY reasonably priced! Their brand of oreos cost 99cents a package (same size as name brand) and taste better than the name brand. Awesome deals, great quality.......I'm excited!!!!!! **Be sure to bring a quarter with you - you need to put a quarter into the shopping cart (you get it back). It just helps to keep the parking lots free of carts that could end up hitting your car.
I just noticed there's another one under construction on Sand Lake Road (west of Orange Ave. but slightly east of Florida Mall). A little too far from home for me to shop there, but maybe someone would find it useful.
On a different, but related, note I'm still curious what's going to happen to my neighborhood Albertson's. It's in the same shopping center as Publix, so I'm not sure what Publix will do about that.
Do you need to bring your own bags to Aldi's? Someone I work with told me that last week but I had never heard that and I've never been so I'm not sure.
You don't have to, but you can. I found this in their website:
And as long as you're bringing a quarter, bag even more savings at ALDI by bringing some bags from home. To help bring you incredible value every day, we don't hire baggers or bury the cost of free grocery bags in our prices. Instead, we encourage you to bring your own. For your convenience, we do sell heavy-weight paper grocery bags at every checkout for 5?. If you prefer, we have big, heavy-duty plastic shopping bags with handles (much bigger and heavier than supermarket plastic bags) for 10?. Insulated bags for your frozen food items are just 99?. And the empty cardboard cartons you'll find throughout the store are yours for the taking?especially convenient if you're buying canned goods or other heavy products!
BTW, I have these incredible bags I got at Costco. They're huge (like twice the capacity of a standard dept. store shopping bag) and very, very, strong. One if them is a cooler bag. I got two regular bags and the cooler bag for $6.
I use them at Costco and even Publix. (at Publix I sometimes get funny looks, but I don't care since I now have to go up a flight of steps to get into my home) So of course I'll use them at Aldi too.
