outdoor pest control?

suggestions? waht do you use?
we have a huge fireant problem. mostly thanks to my neighbor who seems to be farming them. i've developed an allergy to fireants lately, so i'd really like them to go away. we had a pest control guy here recently to check for termites, and he mentioned the fire ants, and that he could treat for them. they use the same ingredient that's in Frontline, which controls fleas and ticks on dogs. I looked up more info, and learned that Frontline also kills bees. 
i've been using diatomatious earth, which is somewhat effective, but slow, and doesn't work when it's wet, and it's apparently monsoon season here right now.
