Re: Monkey!!!
Yay for saying no to induction!!! I say wait as long as you can. I'm a true believer that a lot of inductions end in c-sections. My doctor wouldn't even offer an induction to a first time mom until you were 1 week past your due date or unless there was something wrong that required an induction.
I have a feeling she is going to come on her own this weekend.
Ditto others on saying no to induction! I know 4 people that were induced (one which is me and my Dr did to it for medical reasons but the other 3 were just because they wanted to) and all 4 have ended up in a c/s. So Jill, I also believe being induced raises your chances for a c/s highly. My cousin just got to her due date and asked her dr to be induced for the hell of it. I tried and tried to tell her just give the baby a week, she isn't ready (she didn't even have any dilation or thinning out) and yup she ended in a c/s after 30 hours of labor. I so wanted to say "told ya so".
My sister was induced because my nephew was big and she spent 22 hours in labor and had an emergency cs at 4 am.
They did tell me that I am "favorable" for an induction since I am already a little dialated & 50% effaced... but the baby is still up really high. The ultrasound looked good and the NST's have gone fine so at this point I don't see any point in rushing things. If there was a medical reason to induce I would be less hesitant.
I have a friend with an older man as her OB, he induces everyone if they don't go into labor by their due date. He schedules them for the day after their due date right off the bat. Sadly she believes his BS that it is bad to even go one day past your due date, she told me all of this, he told her that the baby starts to suffer. She ended up with a c/s, imagine that. I'm sure his BS is more out of convenience for himself.
Just about everyone I know that has been induced ends up with either a really long labor ending in a c/s or just a long drawn out labor period. If your not ready, your just not ready.
This is how my sisters docc was with babies over 8lb. Everyone in his office had a 38 week growth us and if the baby was going to be over 8lb he reccommended induction the following week.
My office prefers to induce at 41 weeks but at patient request they do wait until 42. They won't let me go past 42 weeks which would be about 9 days from now. I think we will probably go somewhere in between and I will schedule for 11 or 12 days past my due date. Friday-Sunday are not options and the hospital only does 3 per day so I am guessing that tomorrow we will end up scheduling for the 5th and just hoping that she comes on her own before then.
I wish it would quit raining so much so I could walk more in the evenings. Our mall is getting a little boring.
That just makes me mad! I am anti-induction unless truly needed as well but that's just not true. Yes, the placenta is only meant to support/nourish the baby for a certain amount of time but ONE day after you're due?? Ridiculous!
I know Tami!! Isn't that just crazy!! My friend was telling me how she was induced one day after her due date and I asked why and she proceeded to tell me that her doctor believes that things start going wrong if you go past your due date and if you don't have your baby by your due date he induces everyone the next day or within a few days. Her due date was a Sunday and she went in for an induction on a Monday.
Lots of due dates are off too, not everyone has a 28 day cycle which is what a lot of OBs go off of, some do not do dating U/S. So there has to be some flexibility for just that fact. My first OB went off the 28 day cycle wheel, I tried to tell her my cycles were long and that I'd charted but I got blown off, was given a due date of March 8 and that was that. Can you imagine?? It was an entire month off!!!!! I did end up getting a dating U/S with that first OB because they wanted me to do an NT scan and I told them that I was positive my due date was off and I wasn't going over to Toledo Hospital and taking off work for the scan just to find out I was really only 6 weeks along. I remember the U/S tech was like, wow, I guess you were right.
