Well hello ladies!
I've been on this site a couple of times in the past week or so trying to find an old post I had written about a year ago to put on my blog.
Anyway, life is a lot different for me and the husband. For those of you who don't remember, we were living in Alex's parent's house and toward the end they were quite literally driving me mad. We finally moved out in April, into our own apartment. I was working at a drug and alcohol rehab for teens and was liking it. I was leaning toward getting an addictions counseling certificate, but ended up not having time.
I think I had told everyone that we had applied to the Peace Corps. Everything was moving along. We were nominated for a project in Central America and were supposed to leave in August pending our Medical packets. Well, it got delayed and delayed, and finally we just decided to not put anymore money into at that point.
I was looking for jobs online and found this post requesting teachers for a bilingual school in Honduras. So, I wrote in and the lady said we'd be perfect. That was in Late July. August 23rd we were in Honduras ready to teach. Though we don't absolutely love it (sometimes no water or electricity, very different food), this month has gone by fast and we're all settled in.
Since moving out, Alex and I have been doing a lot better in our marriage. And, though it's been a difficult month getting used to things here, we're doing better than we were on our wedding day. I think a lot of this has to do with being on our own and away from our parents.
I have a blog if anyone is interested in reading it. http://desareeandalex.blogspot.com.
We also just got great news last night. Some of you also might remember that Alex's father was diagnosed with stomach cancer in November of last year. After two intense rounds of chemo (I think 9 weeks each), his tests have come back clean. They may still choose to do some radiation to make sure that it stays that way, but at this point he is healthy! It's very good news, especially since it was difficult for Alex to leave the States with his condition unknown.
I see a bunch of you have babies! That's great - Congratulations. I love looking at the pictures, though for us it is a couple years away.
Anyway, I thought you guys might like to hear from me since I just kind of disappeared. Talk to you all again soon.
