Re: ** caden **
LOL what great timing!
I went easy on her b/c she's been around a while and I remember liking her.
"As of page 2 this might be the most boring argument ever. It's making me long for Rape Day." - Mouse
I just posted this for caden's benefit. I think MM makes some good points, although I naturally don't agree with him on everything. I've seen most of his movies, too. Not "Roger & Me," but Detroit's woes don't interest me too much.
I'm not going to "chew your ass off for not hating Moore!" I would have chewed your ass off if you posted how accurate his movies are and how much they've influenced your policy positions.
I haven't and (if I have my way) will never see a single Michael Moore movie b/c I refuse to give him 2 cents of my money. I've read about his biggies - Fahrenheit, Sicko & Roger & Me. I try not to see extremely slanted, agenda-pushing "documentaries." I never saw Expelled or The Great Global Warming Swindle, or any of the other conservative ones.
Roger and Me was required viewing on my syllabus in a grad school class. I couldnt finish it - and ripped it a new one in class discussions on the subject. Its been years so I really cant effectively rip on it now... but I was not at all impressed with it. From what I remember, my arguments held up well too. Regardless of factual accuracy/inaccuracy... he shows only the side he wants to show, and in doing so presents a distorted view.
No matter what, when you, say, lift a quote out of its context - the meaning is changed and it is no longer 100% accurate. He does this alot so while he may not technically be outright LYING... he completely removes contexts and cuts and pastes to change the meaning to fit his own agenda. I have seen enough of him (through Roger and Me, and clips on the news, etc) to know that this is his MO... and that means that I can never trust anything he shows or says as being contextually accurate (beside the fact I dont think everything he says and shows is factually accurate either). By removing context even one proven time - he completely obliterates any credibility.
Yeah, my friend's dad, who is a Cuban immigrant is super pissed about Sicko and it pretty much blows his mind that anyone believes such propoganda. It was a fun car ride to the train station from her shower...
