Need decor advice

I need some help decorating my LR.  We've recently painted and some of the stuff doesn't match, ugh.  As you can see in the pix, these are 2 blank walls right when you walk in the front door, I need some ideas on what to put there.   The first pic is the wall that faces the front door. image

As you can see, this is the pic of the wall to the left when you walk in the front door.

Re: Need decor advice

  • For either wall, I think a grouping of wrought iron things would be fun. My mom did a collage of wrought iron and rock-looking crosses over her mantel and a grouping of brass suns with faces (she has a tropical/spanish/hispanic theme in the living room) and it looked really neat. I'll see if I can find a picture to pip to sort of explain what I'm trying to say =P

Edit: here is a great link I found for grouping framed art on the walls, I liked the "hand trick" halfway down the page for putting art on a large space (like your long wall)

  • HMM, Ok, lets see if these work.

It might be b/c I loaded them on PB, I've been having issues with that site for a looong time.  Hopefully, these will work.

  • Ok...so the first pic is what you see when you first enter your house? Is that right? I would think a pretty grouping of wedding or other photos would be nice as you first come in? Or maybe a small console table flanked with lamps and a nice mirror or something? I always gravitate to mirrors...LOL.

And I like the suggestions AM had about the large wall and gropuing iron pieces there. I love iron stuff too! And you can usually find that stuff at Kirklands for CHEAP!

Have you been to that Garden Ridge in Irondale yet? Elaine called me a few days ago to tell me that is was nothing like the Old Time Pottery that is in our area....so DH and I went and we were shocked! It was really awesome what they have! We definitely plan to go back! And it also helps that it isn't in Pelham...which is like 40 miles from us... LOL.

yeah, work won't let me into sites like that - considered "online storage".  ugh, sorry I'll look tonight.

Post on D&R as they are GREAT at helping w/stuff like this though..

  • Lauren, you're exactly right, the first pic is the wall that you see right when you come in the front door.  My first thought was a grouping of wedding pix too, which I'm leaning towards doing that.

My other thought for the other wall would be a console table of some kind, and something on the wall.  I love wrought iron too.  I haven't been to Garden Ridge yet, where is it located in Irondale?

I think an accent table would be really cute too, and then maybe hang a few pictures from the wedding above it.

  • I am so crap with directions...but it is in Irondale across the street from Sam's. Does that help you at all? LOL

  • Ok, yeah I know exactly where you're talking about. I might have to go and check them out this weekend.
  • I like the idea about a decorative table....with cute little buffet lamps....and a nice mirror....or group of pics!  I am also all about the wrought iron pieces.  My whole house is decorated in them....if they ever go out of style I am at a loss :P

The Garden Ridge is at the old Wal-Mart building in Irondale...right across from the Sam's Club!  They do have tons of stuff you could hang on those bare walls.  They usually have their big sales on Saturdays :)

  • I was going to suggest a collage of pictures on either wall.  You can buy nice frames for cheap.  I done this and everyone always thinks I got them professionally framed :)

Also a large clock from Kirklands or Peir One would be nice.

I watch way too much HGTV so this might be far out there but I saw where they took smaller trim and made a large square.  Inside they put pics and the outer trim looked like a larger pic frame.  Hard to explain but it looked so nice.  The trim would be white or different color than your wall so it would pop.  I was thinking you could do this on the wall beside the front door.
