Multnomah Falls hike?

So, I'm thnking of hiking the Wahkeena Falls trail at Multnomah Falls this weekend, but solo...the weather shouldn't be too bad and it's still in season to hike, so do you ladies think I'll be OK by myself to hike? It's a 5.6 mile loop that sounds pretty amazing, but haven't been up there before (seen the falls, but only from the bottom). Thanks!

Re: Multnomah Falls hike?

  • I think you'll be fine. I've done part of that trail and I think it gets enough traffic from hiking families and other people that you'd be pretty safe. I would just check in with a friend before and after you go so someone knows where you are (just in case you fall down a ravine, lol).

We went hiking on the coast this weekend and I also saw a girl hike by herself. I've done it in the past myself as well.

Ditto.  Also, please make sure you take plenty of water/food, just in case, dress in layers, and PLEASE stay on the trail.

  • Triple post.  Stupid board Super Angry

  • I think that's the one we did last fall.  Is it one that goes by Fairy Falls, Wahkeena Springs, Ecola Falls, Weisendanger Falls and some others?  I would personally be nervous on that hike, but I tend to be anxious as a general rule.  If you don't get anxiety because you're too far away from civilization then you should be fine.  Are you taking Callie?

I wasn't going to, because I thought it might be long for her...but I think I might. I mean, she's far from big and ferocious, but you never know, right? There were areas in San Diego I would have totally hiked alone, but I knew they were fairly well traveled. I don't know enough about OR areas..I'm sure Multnomah Falls hike is really well traveled, but seems too short.

Drama-I will totally take food/water/cell phone.

  • Pretty much what the other posts said to do. Food, water, shoes, clothing, cell phone & tell someone when and where you are going, and leave early enough in the day that you're not caught on the trail by yourself alone in the dark!

Otherwise I am sure you will have the most fabulous, refreshing time, ever.
