What's your fav charity?

I'm organizing a fundraiser in november and we're trying to decide on a charity to give the money to.... i'm trying to think outside the box and going into the holiday season i know there are tons that could use it. Any recommendations? Iw as thinking chicago canine rescue (that's where we got our dog) or the local library... i want the money to stay local. In the burbs would be great too....

thanks!

  • new moms, inc--a chicago charity serving pregnant and parenting, homeless and near-homeless teens (13-24) and their children (birth-age 5).  new moms provides food; supportive housing; education re-enrollment; career-readiness, life skills and parenting training; as well as age-appropriate children's programming with routine screenings for signs of abuse and neglect.

around the holidays, they look for brand new kids' toys and clothing, which teen moms can "shop" for with points they've earned throughout the year--often the first christmas presents their children will receive!
