Cost for custom made drapery?

Anyone have an idea of the average cost of having two 160 inch panels made?  Probably a sheer or faux silk grommet top (saw this at JCPenney).  Thanks for any imput.

Re: Cost for custom made drapery?

  • If you find the fabric and buy it yourself, you could probably get someone to make them that does it on the side for $50 or so. Grommet is a little more difficult I believe. If you had them done through a store, they could run you a couple hundred dollars depending on the material.

  • I can't say for certain, definitely depends on the cost of the fabric you choose. My friend recently got a quote for $300. However, my grandmother got custom draperies from JCPenney 20 years ago and they cost her $1000.

You should set up an appointment. They will send someone to your house free of charge (no obligation to buy) to help you select a style and fabric for your house and show you all the options and pricing.

  • Ikea custom makes them. You choose the fabric and they'll make them the length you want. I haven't done this in a long time -- maybe 10 years ago when I moved into a house with really long windows. I think they ran about $100.
  • Custom made drapery is SOOOOO expensive! Unless you know someone that can make them you are going to pay a lot.

$50 is WAY cheap! I wouldn't expect you to be able to find anyone to do it that low.

I would guess - if you can find some cheap labor - $100 per panel MINIMUM!

My sister lives in Charlotte (I make my own drapes - I took sewing classes in middle school) and it cost her $500 to have her old custom drapes from her old living room altered and re-hung in her new living room. This is just one room and one window treatment on a triple window!
  • ALSO - it's really easy to sew simple drapes! You just have to sew a straight line.

    Grommets are also really easy.

You just have to messure twice (or three or four times) and cut once!
  • I just had custom drapes made for my dining room. PIB.  The fabric was on sale and I want to say the fabric alone was about $75 and in cost another $125 or so for sewing.
  • Ok so to say that if you are looking at custom-please do consider that you are getting a quality product hung on a nice rod and also consider that if you go with "ready made"....the hems are uneven and can flare at the bottom and will not be lined.....
