So I created a LinkedIn account a few months ago and am just getting around to adding people to my network. Obviously I know you want to be selective with your network and who is included.
But is there anyone out there who uses LinkedIn a lot and can kind of give me LinkedIn 101 and how to use it, etc? How do you network with people outside of your 'network' and such? Any LinkedIn dos and don'ts?
TIA!
Re: LinkedIn anyone?
I created one years ago, but have failed to keep it updated. I think it says I still work for a company I was only with for a few months. The problem I found was that I didn't particularly want to be "linked" to many of the people I previously worked with because I didn't enjoy our time together and therefore wouldn't want to work with them again.
I have been contacted by people outside of my network, but have no idea how they did it. Sorry I can't be much help.
I use it all the time for work. It's actually pretty simple to use in my opinion. You can use the search bar to look for people out of your network, but I find it's easier to use people in your network and find common friends to add to your network.
Another good networking tool on there is groups. If you can find a group that you are interested in or if your company has a profile on there, you can join that and then find people you know through there.
And feel free to add me to your network :-)
