Gutter Guards??

I'm so tired of cleaning the leaves out of gutters.  I love by backyard which is heavily tree'd but I hate the CONSTANT cleaning of gutters.

I keep seeing the advertisements about different gutter guards and how they have half off installation or no interest for 12 months.  I'm guessing they are going to be very expensive but are they worth it?

This is something I'd obviously save for the never having to clean gutters again is a strong selling point for me.  This is the first time DH and I bought a house.

Re: Gutter Guards??

  • We live in the woods and have a ton of tree debris that could get in the gutters.  Because of this gutters were never put on the house...which caused a corner of the foundation to settle more and lots of rotting on the lower level.  So we went with a top of the line gutter guard and as part of a home expo deal we got free seamless gutters (extruded on site).  The name of the product is Gutter Glove.  It's made with an extruded aluminum frame and super fine stainless steel mesh.  It works so great the grit from our roof won't pass through!  It comes with an upside down push broom but the wind usually takes care of all the debris removal.  And we've never had water spill over the side even in heavy rain.  It was pretty expensive but keep in mind we got free gutters too.  It came out to be $32/lf with tax.  We plan to stay in the house for a long time so it was well worth it to us.  Here's a picture I took a few months after they were installed:

Notice all the small debris from the new roof and our flowering trees.

    We're super happy with them!

  • Our last house had these and they were useless.  I don't know if they were supposed to just click in place or if they had been at one time actually screwed on, but everything just collected on top and got stuck, creating a decomposing mess right at the shingle line.  On the corners where the pieces wouldn't fit right there'd be a giant collection of stuff.  There were plenty of places where the screens were just missing altogether.  We had a guy come clean one day and he said the amount he blew out was probably several years' worth. We had a 3 story house on a hill on a very wooded lot and we only paid $90 once in the fall/early winter after leaf drop and again in the spring when new buds pushed out anything left from over the winter.

We have something just like this but not the same brand. WE LOVE THEM! Water runs right into them, but nothing else does.

Is it Master Shield?  They are basically the same thing but with ridges instead of a smooth top.
