X-Post, Getting rid of mushrooms in your garden

I X-Posted this in Gardening too...

I'm pretty sure when I asked DH to pick me up a bag of soil, the bag he bought had mushroom spores in it. Now I have mushrooms popping up constantly and no matter how much I dig them out (even before they open up) they keep coming back.

I have vegetables growing in this area and they are pretty big, so at this point it's hard to dig up all the soil and get rid of it, but I really didn't want to buy any chemicals since again, these are vegetables and I want to eat them. I wanted to try to be organic. Is there any way I can get rid of the mushrooms without buying chemical fungicide, or should I just suck it up and buy some?

Thanks!

Re: X-Post, Getting rid of mushrooms in your garden

  • May I ask why you want to get rid of them?  Do you have a dog or kid that might eat them?  Mushrooms are a sign that you've got good quality soil, full of rich organic matter.  If mushrooms popped up in my garden, I would be proud.

They're overtaking the top soil to the point that it almost looks like I've got mushroom grass growing. I'm afraid they'll choke out my plants and take all the nutrients. Is that possible? I've never had mushrooms before...
