Re: Which brand of baby food

  • We used mostly Earth's Best or Beach Nut. The first choice you have to make is organic or not. Start there. It will help reduce your choices.
  • Is organic the best??? Who knows... some will say yes.   You can never be sure whats really in the food you eat. We used Beech- Nut w/ Brianna.  BJ's has boxes of dinners/fruits/veggies... and Market Basket now carries the Beech Nut brand.
  • We are using Gerber, but not necessarily organic. ?It's completely your call.

  • We went with beech-nut. I just stood in the aisle and compared nutrition/ingredient label as well as price and thought beech-nut was the best buy in both areas for my baby. Some swear by organic or gerber....I think the AAP says organic is better - but who really knows!
  • We prefer organic, as I have read that their little bodies can't process the pesticides very well. ?So I mostly give Ben Earth's Best or Gerber Organic. ?But I will give him the occasional Beech Nut or Gerber if they have a different flavor not available in organic. ?I taste everything I give him and honestly, I find the flavors of the EB and BN to be much better than Gerber...
  • We just started on rice cereal and we used Earth's Best...I think I will try to stay with the organic as much as I can right now.  I bought some oatmeal next and then some sweet potatoes.  We'll see!
  • I made my own for the most part (and seriously, you would be surprised how easy that is to do) but I won't preach about that.  If you'd like to know more about it, email me and/or check out wholesomebabyfood.com.

For when we were on-the-go we did buy mostly organic brands (Earth's Best, Organic Baby, little lettice), but there are some things that were not always available locally so I have bought non-organic stuff too.  Somehow, my kids survived the baby food stage :)

Is your own diet entirely organic?  I know mine isn't but I do the best I can balancing what I can find locally with what I can afford and figure that's gotta be good enough.......... same approach works with babies :)

  • We started off exclusively organic with either Gerber or Earth's Best. However, a month or 2 ago we switched pretty much completely to BeechNut (except for his cereal, which I get from Earth's Best). I guess like others have said I compared the labels---BN seems to be all natural for the most part, with the exception of a few things, and they are much more affordable (.49 at walmart per stage 2 jar, as compared to about .79 per stage 2 jar of EB). We don't eat organic in our house as a rule, not because we don't want to but because we can't afford it...so, I guess in a way, we're just feeding him what he'll be eating as he grows up. When organic is on sale, I'll buy it, but as a rule my staple brand has become BN. SO far, I have no real complaints, except I noticed in their foods with the DHA in it, there are some ingredients I don't know much about and I can't promounce, so I simply just do not buy those varieties!! HTH!
