Critique my Bridal Shower Menu

The shower is later this month, I'm expecting 20ish people, and the invites said to expect a light lunch.

Turkey pesto finger sandwiches (cut into wedding cake shapes)

Brie Honey Almond Phyllo Cups

Fall Salad with Maple Dressing (apples/greens/goat cheese--I'm also setting out cheddar and ranch all separate and labeled so people can pick and choose)

Herbed Ricotta Dip, Spiced Pumpkin Dip, and Cream Cheese with pepper jelly with veggies, baguette, and triscuits

Cheese platter with Jarlsburg, Brie, and Cheddar

Blueberry Almond Cookies and petit fours

Is this too much?  Just right?  Need more?  I couldn't get the links to work, sorry.

TIA, ladies!

Re: Critique my Bridal Shower Menu

  • I think it sounds perfect!  The only thing(s) I might add is some fresh fruit.  Are you doing cake as well?  If not, I might add another desser item.  Other than that, it sounds very good and perfect for what you described on the invite!
  • It's very cheese heavy.  Everything but the sandwiches and pumpkin dip have cheese.  I'd probably dump the cheese platter or the phyllo cups and add a different little bite- something with ham or shrimp maybe?

I don't know what your pumpkin dip is like, but my recipe is great with ginger snaps and vanilla wafers, not so much bagette or triscuits.

  • I agree with 6fsn that it's very cheese heavy (however, I'd cut the cheese plate -- but that's because I'm addicted to Brie Phyllo Cups and go nuts whenever they're at a party!). I'd add another item, either meat or vegetarian, that doesn't have anything milk-based in it.

  • Thank you, ladies!  I'll figure out what to switch out for some fruit.

No cake, but I'm planning on doing some sort of sherbert punch, so that can be dessert-ish.

    Thank you so much!

  • As someone who does not eat cheese this would be a pretty rough meal for me. Though I realize I am uncommon. I definitely don't think you need an additional cheese tray. I would substitute it for fruit. Have you made the blueberry almond cookies before? Those just don't sound like they would be that tasty. I think petit fours are fine instead of cake. But if you are making from scratch and haven't made them before I found them very difficult and would recommend buying them or making a cake instead.
  • My only concern about fruit- there isn't a whole lot in season.
  • I'm definitely not making the petit fours--I've ordered them from a bakery Smile

I was planning on getting a couple of fruit trays from the grocery, maybe checking out Whole Foods/The Fresh Market to see their selection/prices.  I can always put them on a platter that day.

Thank you so much, ladies, this has really helped!

  • I agree w/ all the other ladies...ditch the cheese tray and sub in a fruit tray for it.  I would also add in another non-dairy item such as cold shrimp (marinated or cocktail) or blanched asparagus wrapped in proscuitto.  Otherwise, it sounds delicious!
  • I would ditch the cheese tray too
