Help - Cake Pops

I am trying to make Mickey Cake Pops and everything was going so well until I tried to dip them in the melted chocolate. The cake ball just falls right off. I dipped the stick into chocolate first like the directions say (to "glue" it to the cake ball and I added vegetable oil to make the chocolate thinner and they still fall right off in the chocolate. Any tips?

Re: Help - Cake Pops

  • I haven't made them, but I've looked at some recipes.  Did you freeze them before trying to dip them?

Wendy made them recently, maybe she can help.

  • I had this problem when I started making mine, and I found that they needed to be frozen for longer than I thought they would.  At first I only let them freeze for a half hour and the first few I started working on always fell off.  By the time I got to the end of the batch (the ones that stayed in the freezer longer) they stayed on with no problems.

I don't know if this also made a difference, but after freaking out over the first few, I went through and made sure the sticks were only halfway through the cake ball and kinda squeezed the ball (no pun intended) to the stick so there wouldn't be any wiggle room.

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks ladies! That helped :) I had been following the directions which said to freeze for 15 minutes and then put in the fridge. They didn't turn out great, but that's ok since I wasn't making them for anything special.

  • I actually had trouble with my cakeballs even after I froze them.  The cake would come off in my chocolate or my chocolate would coat them and look all chunky!

     Good luck!
